Forevermore Starts Here: The Anthology 1984-2010 - St. Christopher

Forevermore Starts Here: The Anthology 1984-2010
•    In Indie circles, ST. CHRISTOPHER are an enigma, a mysterious act who made a plethora of beautiful records and yet are relatively unknown. Forevermore Starts Here seeks to rectify that!

•    St. Christopher revolved around the singing and songwriting talents of Glenn Melia, who formed the band in the early 80s before creating a string of now prized pop 45s on their own Bluegrass label.

•    At the end of 1988, St. Christopher signed with the iconic Sarah Records for a string of memorable singles and EPs. Subsequently, the band recorded two albums for Vinyl Japan and later enjoyed releases on such cult labels as Slumberland, Bus Stop and Elefant.

•    Compiled by Glenn Melia, Forevermore Starts Here is the first proper retrospective spanning St. Christopher’s lifespan. It includes many of their early singles A’s and B’s from the mid-1980s together with tracks from their 90s albums for Vinyl Japan and beyond.

•    The 2-CD set also boasts their entire output for Sarah Records (some 18 tracks). The Bristol label is the subject very soon of both a film and a book.

•    The package has been assembled by the same design team behind Scared To Get Happy and C86.

NB: This product is released September 22nd and will not be dispatched before this date.

E For Edward / Pure / Et Dieu Crea La Femme
Released on 24/08/09. Three albums excavated in their entirety documenting the closing act of the Nineteen Eighties, the dawn of a new Pop Ascension and the Fall Out that ensued. Definitive period pop music leaving behind the Gothy-Table Set murkiness of the Black Decade, announcing the Swinging Acid House about to erupt, with songs like Manchester almost accurately predicting the 'Madchester' mass hysteria that was to follow. These albums signalled the beginning of a new prolific song writing/recording period for Edward Ball and the Times on Creation Records at a time when True Independent Pop was never more celebrated. If Wishes Were Horses
Released on 18/01/10. Blueboy's first album, originally released in 1992, will be reissued on El Records. In keeping with the Sarah tradition, the original album was an 8-track mini-album with no singles or previously / later released tracks, but it is re-released with addition of the band s first four singles and their B-sides as a 19-track album. All of this material has been unavailable, except for download, since around the time Sarah shut up shop in 1995. Blueboy were formed by lyricist and singer, Keith Girdler, and songwriter and guitarist, Paul Stewart in Reading in the early 1990s. Since meeting around a decade earlier, Paul and Keith had been in various bands together before Blueboy, and had sent previous demos to Sarah. However, it was the demo for Clearer, which was released in 1991 as their first single, which got them their deal. Whilst their initial releases were gentle and acoustic, they expanded into a full band, with bass, drums, keyboards and cello, and eventually including Harvey Williams on guitar. Their later albums will be reissued on EL Records, of which Keith and Paul were both huge fans, over the coming months. Our Price: £9.95

Halcyon Days - Complete Recordings 1985-1987
•    Hailing from Sheffield and named after an Orange Juice lyric, ONE THOUSAND VIOLINS evolved out of indie-pop duo The Page Boys, signing to Dan Treacy’s Dreamworld label in 1985. The band revolved around songwriters Colin Gregory and Dave Walmsley, who were influenced by the best in Sixties music.

•    Debut single ‘Halcyon Days’ won rave reviews and B-side ‘Like One Thousand Violins’ made John Peel’s Festive 50 that year. Second single, the more psychedelic-sounding ‘Please Don’t Sandblast My House’, made the Indie Chart in late 1986.

•    Their next single, ‘Ungrateful Bastard’, was issued on German label Constrictor and still made the Indie Top 30. The label also issued two mini-LPs by the band. After a final single for Dreamworld, ‘Locked Out Of The Love-In’, ONE THOUSAND VIOLINS issued ‘If I Were A Bullet’ on Report at the end of 1987.

•    Compiled with involvement from founding members Colin Gregory and John Wood, Halcyon Days offers the band’s complete recorded output from 1985 to 1987, prior to the band changing their line-up and sound. Many of these tracks are new to CD.

Exile On Twee Street
•    Back in the early 1980s, THE BLUEBELLS were part of a vanguard of Scottish pop which also included Orange Juice, Altered Images and Lloyd Cole & The Commotions.

•    Before signing to London Records and scoring hits such as ‘Young At Heart’ and ‘I’m Falling’, the band recorded an album’s worth of independent recordings and demos, most of which remained unreleased.

•    Compiled by Robert Hodgens (Bobby Bluebell) with the involvement of the rest of the band, EXILE ON TWEE STREET finally reveals the band’s roots in the indie scene of early 80s Glasgow.

•    The Bluebells actually demo’d songs for Alan Horne’s Postcard label, recently the subject of a critically acclaimed book by Simon Goddard entitled Simply Thrilled.

•    Only the track ‘Happy Birthday’ has been issued before – on a rare flexidisc!
