Folktronic
What if computers finally began getting more Africa in them? What if folk artists started emerging who sounded more post-modern than Cornelius or Pole? What would Click Folk or Glitch Folk sound like? What would Alan Lomax have said if, in 1965, the Newport Folk Festival had been invaded by boffins and geeks playing modular Moogs? What if you could hear, today, the Country Music of the year 2049? What about the Japanese country music of 2049? What would that sound like? What if electronics had appeared in 18th Century Scotland just at the moment of the Highland Clearances? How many mountains can you fit on a Minidisc? It's what Raymond Scott, Bruce Haack or Gary Numan might have sounded like if they'd jammed their way through the back catalogue of Steeleye Span. It's Shakespeare rendered in Flash 5 by a superlucid hyperactive Japanese geek. It's those prolific medieval songwriters Trad. and Anon. finding the missing link between unicorns and Unix. It's preposterous, provocative and prescient

Tearing Up The Album Charts
Go Kart Mozart represents just one of the creative outlets for Lawrence who spent the full decade of the ‘80s fronting the wide ranging, atmospheric guitar pop of Felt. In the ‘90s Lawrence made a somewhat iconoclastic move in forming Denim who have released three lps to date but their classic manifesto was outlined in 1992's ‘Back In Denim' recently featured as Mojo magazine's Buried Treasure and described as 'full of glam and pop hooks machined to perfection with the best in 1990‘s recording science'.

Denim's third album was called ‘Novelty Rock' which provided the jumping off point for a new project called Go Kart Mozart. Taking the concept of novelty pop, serious artistry and childish fun to new heights, Lawrence released Go Kart's debut ‘Instant Wigwam And Igloo Mixture' for his own West Midlands Label in the year 2000.

Now, at last comes the second Go Kart Mozart release, ‘Tearing Up The Album Chart', again released for West Midlands Records through Cherry Red. Where ‘Instant Wigwam' used synth-pop and novelty, both whimsically and seriously - ‘Hip-op' was about the Queen Mums hip operation while ‘Um Bongo' commented on genocide in Rwanda - ‘Tearing Up The Album Charts' is no less ironic but adopts a more overt serious tone combined with Lawrence's trade mark sadness and poignancy.

There's something beyond nostalgia about the track ‘Listening To Marmalade' - the group that is, not the sticky preservative, while ‘Fuzzy Duck' is, by and large, a charming litany of ‘60s and ‘70s obscure band names taking in Bacon Fat, Plastic Penny and Ultimate Spinach.

Lawrence is one of the most extraordinary talents to emerge from the ‘70s punk movement. He's made countless classic, sometimes perplexing records but has been dogged by ill luck and unfortunate timing that has seen admirers and luminaries such as Belle And Sebastian's Stuart Murdoch and Pulp's Jarvis Cocker become hugely successful with blueprints created by Lawrence while Lawrence seems destined to be the ultimate cult star.

Small Time / Hey Hey We’re The Manqués 2CD

Formed in the mid ‘80s, The Servants was a vehicle for songwriter David Westlake. The band was included on the NME's C86 compilation, and by 1987 future Auteur Luke Haines had joined on guitar. Their debut album, "Disinterest”, was released in 1989, and they began to work on a follow-up, "Small Time”, before disbanding in the early 1990s.
Previously unreleased, and unheard by anyone outside of the band, ‘Small Time’ is the Servants' lost second album – "the best album… a strange and wonderful thing,” according to Haines in his sleeve-notes. In his book ‘Bad Vibes’, Haines describes the band’s first album, "Disinterest”, as 'existential art rock , ten years too late and fifteen years too early’. The songs on ‘Small Time’, he says are 'more mysterious, strange and beautiful, transcending their influence and sounding like nothing else.'
CD TWO of this set – "Hey Hey We’re The Manqués” – includes rehearsal versions of songs from "Disinterest”, taped before the album was recorded. "Disinterest” was recently included in MOJO magazine's list of 'the greatest British indie records of all time.'
Compiled and mastered by David Westlake, with sleeve-notes by Luke Haines, this set has been produced with the full involvement and approval of the artists and is a must-hear for anybody with an interest in adventurous, ethereal alternative pop.

Everything’s Shining Bright, the Lazy Recordings 1985-87 2CD
*** WE HAVE A VERY LIMITED AMOUNT OF SIGNED COPIES AVAILABLE, PLEASE ORDER NOW TO GET YOUR COPY!! ***

(PLEASE NOTE ALL SIGNED COPIES ARE NOW SOLD OUT!!)

Back in the mid-80s, The Primitives combined the fuzz guitars of The Jesus & Mary Chain with the pop sensibilities of Blondie and a nod to cult heroes The Velvet Underground. They swiftly rose from being a popular Indie guitar outfit to charting worldwide with "Crash”, kickstarting a craze in bands fronted by blonde female singers (Transvision Vamp, The Darling Buds et al).
Between 1985 and 1987, the band issued five singles/EP’s on independent label Lazy Records (also home to My Bloody Valentine and later Birdland) before signing with RCA.
Everything’s Shining Bright is named after their planned Lazy Records album, which was abandoned when the band left the label – indeed, seven of the ten previously unissued tracks here stem from those scotched LP sessions. Also unearthed is the band’s very first demo from 1985, consisting of three tracks including a dry-run through their eventual hit "Crash”.
This 2-CD set also boasts their promo-only live album at the ICA; as such, it offers their entire Lazy output from that period.
Those Lazy singles in full:
Thru The Flowers (May 1986) Indie No.20
Really Stupid (October 1986) Indie No.3
Stop Killing Me (February 1987) Indie No.2
Thru The Flowers (New Version - August 1987) Indie No.3
Ocean Blue (gig freebie 7”)
Compiled with guitarist PJ Court, this 2-CD compilation boasts re-mastered music as well as a beautifully annotated booklet boasting rare photos and personal memories from the band.

Release Date: 25/03/2013
