Routes / Three Piece Suite - Ramsay Lewis

Routes / Three Piece Suite
Available to a wide audience for the very first time on Compact Disc two of keyboard legend Ramsey Lewis’s classic Eighties albums "Routes” & "Three Piece Suite”.

The "Routes” album sees his collaboration with Earth Wind & Fire continue after the Success of the "Sun Goddess” album (which is also available on Cherry Red Records) with five tracks composed by members of Earth Wind & Fire, with the remaining tracks written by Allen Toussaint, who also produced the album with Larry Dunn of Earth Wind & Fire. ‘Whisper Zone’ and ‘Colors In Space’ being the stand out tracks from the album. · 1981’s "Three Piece Suite” sees a softer Jazzier side of Ramsey, and his Piano playing style is probably more evident on this album than on "Routes”, There is even a cover version of Michael Jackson’s ‘She’s Out Of My Life.’

With sleeve notes from MOJO’s Lois Wilson this superb two on one package should hit the right note sales wise for the gifting season.

Just For You/All Night Music
· Originally from Youngstown, Ohio, the brother-and-sister group The McCrarys began their career in the gospel field recording their first LP in 1972. However, it was a move into secular music in 1978 that brought the team national prominence in the US when their debut album for Portrait Records, "Loving Is Living” achieved success, in part due to the Top 10 R&B hit, ‘You’ which featured one of their champions, Stevie Wonder. After their label follow-up LP, "On The Other Side,” the group signed a new deal with Capitol Records in 1980.
· Consisting of sisters Charity and Linda and brothers Alfred, Howard and Sam, The McCrarys worked with producer/musician Patrick Henderson (whose roots were also in the gospel field). With seven tracks credited to various members of the group as songwriters, JUST FOR YOU included the key cut, ‘Any Ol’ Sunday’ which was recorded by Chaka Khan in 1981.
· Teamed with former member of The Crusaders, Wayne Henderson (producer of Ronnie Laws, Esther Phillips, Side Effect and Pleasure among others), the group’s second Capitol LP, ALL NIGHT MUSIC fared better. The track, ‘Love On A Summer Night’ became a Top 100 US R&B hit single and a constant favourite – and now classic - in the UK with ‘smooth groove’fans.
· Apart from a limited Japanese pressing of "All Night Music”, both albums are making their worldwide CD debut with this SoulMusic Records reissue, which includes notes by renowned UK writer Charles Waring with 2013 quotes from members of the group.

Billy Preston & Syreeta
  • Continuing to reissue classic original albums from the Motown catalogue, SoulMusic Records is very proud to present the worldwide CD debut of the self-titled 1981 album by BILLY PRESTON and SYREETA, an expanded edition with seven bonus tracks.
  • Billy Preston (through mid’-70s hits such as ‘Will It Go Round In Circles’ and ‘Nothing From Nothing’) and Syreeta (former wife of Stevie Wonder with four critically-acclaimed albums to her credit) were established as recording artists in their own right when, as Motown label-mates, they worked together on the 1979 soundtrack for the film, "Fast Break.” While the film itself made no impact, one track from the album, the beautiful ballad ‘With You I’m Born Again’ (included as a bonus track on this reissue along with an instrumental version of the song) became a Top 5 UK hit prompting Motown to release the single in the US where it reached No. 4 on Billboard’s Top 100 chart.
  • Encouraged by the single’s success, Syreeta’s 1980 self-titled LP (reissued by SoulMusic Records in 2013, SMCR-5094) featured two more duets with Billy, ‘One More Time For Love’ and ‘Please Stay,’ both included as bonus tracks on this release along with a non-album ‘B’ side ‘It Will Come In Time.’ The pair recorded BILLY PRESTON & SYREETA in 1981 working with producers including David Shire & Carol Connors, Ollie E. Brown and Michael Masser.
  • Bonus tracks include two versions of ‘Go For It’ (from "Fast Break”) and the reissue includes notes by UK Motown expert Sharon Davis with 2013 quotes from producer/songwriter Carol Connors.
