'The Boy And The
Audience' is the debut album release by Bird Radio.
Bird Radio "
loops flutes, bones, a red kick-drum suitcase and his own very un-ethereal
vocals to create an intensely curious mash-up between electronic music and
traditional folk tales." (Critics' Choice, Time Out)
Bird Radio has
been described on different occasions as "A mix of old testament preacher
and Captain Beefheart. There's a touch of Tom Waits and Nick Cave in there too
.." (jazzman.com), "a flute-toting, bass drum-beating sensation. A
must-see live act." (Rick Pearson, Evening Standard) and as "...
future medieval, as if J.G. Ballard had written The Wicker Man" (Steve
Chandra Savale, Asian Dub Foundation).
Bird Radio has
performed at over 100 venues, nationally and internationally, including the
Purcell Room, Cafe Oto, Tate Britain, Whitechapel Gallery, union Chapel, Cecil
Sharp House, The Cinema Museum, The 'Pataphysical' Museum, Secret Garden Party,
NOVA Festival, SOFAR living room concerts (London, Berlin and New York), The
Horse Hospital and venues in America, Canada, Germany, Greece, France and
Italy. He has composed music for experimental films and has been a featured
artist on both BBC Radio and on Irwin Chusid's WFMU radio show in New York and
has received the "Knap O Howar" festival award. He now releases his
first studio album "The Boy and the Audience" produced by Rick
Campion and mastered by the legendary Jon Astley.
Inspired to take
up the flute by the music of Jethro Tull and their leader Ian Andersson,
there's nobody else quite like Bird Radio on the UK music scene. Originally
from Hereford, performer Mikey Kirkpatrick began his solo act Bird Radio after
graduating in music from Goldsmiths College in London and is an experienced
musician, composer, arranger and producer. This year he took part in a BBC
Radio 4 documentary on one man bands after being seen at the Montreal One Man
Band Festival by Radio 6's Tom Ravenscroft.
"The Boy And
The Audience" comes with a beautifully designed and illustrated booklet by
celebrated Italian artist and experimental film-maker Chiara Ambrosio.
