Rock And Roll Animals - Luke Haines

Rock And Roll Animals
Cherry Red Records is delighted to release the brand new solo album from Luke Haines (The Servants, The Auteurs, Baader Meinhof& Black Box Recorder).
Rock N Roll Animals is a psychedelic story for grown-ups (and children). Jimmy Pursey is a frisky fox; Nick Lowe – a solid badger and Gene Vincent – a cat who's seen a bit more of life than most of us. Three furry freaks. Three Rock n Roll animals. The fable of our four-pawed shamen is narrated by the good folk of Magic Town.
This is a story of righteous rock n roll and how our three rock n roll animal friends, when not frolicking in the undergrowth, do battle with their most unrighteous nemesis – a fuck ugly bird (from Tyneside) made of steel and wire called The Angel Of The North.
The album will be preceded by a 7” single of the title track with two exclusive non-album B-Sides on 15th July. The album will also be released on limited edition 12” vinyl.
The album will coincide with the selected UK cinema release of the feature-length documentary film ‘Art Will Save The World’ about Luke Haines by Niall McCann.

You Didn’t Like It Because You Didn’t Think Of It, The Complete Sessions 1970-71
· Thanks to the novelty hit nature of the million-selling forty-five ‘Neanderthal Man’ (only prevented from topping the British singles chart in the summer of 1970 by Elvis Presley’s ‘The Wonder Of You’), little attention was paid at the time to the other recordings cut by pre-10cc act Hotlegs.
· That’s a shame, because the album Hotlegs Thinks: School Stinks (quickly remodelled and repackaged as Song) was a veritable smorgasbord of turn-of-the-decade studio pop moves that deserves to be considered alongside the heavyweights of the era. With its roots in the aborted 1969 Frabjoy & Runcible Spoon (aka Kevin Godley & Lol Creme) album for Giorgio Gomelsky’s Marmalade label, the Hotlegs LP was a daringly ambitious creation, peaking on the White Album-era McCartneyish ballads ‘Take Me Back’ and ‘Today’, the equally beautiful, Beach Boys-inspired ‘All God’s Children’ and the sumptuous, 13 minute song suite ‘On My Way/Indecision/The Return’ ("our version of Side Two of Abbey Road”, according to Godley).
· Housed in newly-commissioned, more sympathetic artwork, and featuring a new essay on the band, this definitive Hotlegs anthology reassesses their position in the overall scheme of things. Gathering together every track issued in the group’s name, including both versions of the album, a couple of non-LP singles and even a US-only remix of The Hit, You Didn’t Like It Because You Didn’t Think Of It reveals that, notwithstanding that anomalous novelty song, Lol Creme, Kevin Godley and Eric Stewart were master pop craftsmen even before adding Graham Gouldman to the line-up and changing their name to 10cc...

Windy: A Ruthann Friedman Songbook
RECORDINGS FROM 1966-1970
FROM THE ORIGINAL MASTER TAPES!
ALL TRACKS FIRST TIME EVER RELEASED!
Having written The Association’s ‘Windy’ while living in David Crosby’s basement, RUTHANN FRIEDMAN remained an intriguing and mysterious figure of ‘60s pop for decades. Until recently her released output consisted of a lone folk album issued in 1970. Unbelievably, many fascinating recordings she created with some of the most revered names in West Coast pop have remained locked away in the vaults… until NOW!
Featuring productions by CURT BOETTCHER, TOMMY LiPUMA, and VAN DYKE PARKS, Windy: A Ruthann Friedman Songbook contains 18 tracks from 1966-1970, focusing on Ruthann’s pop/rock efforts from this era. Musicians include RANDY NEWMAN, RON ELLIOTT of The Beau Brummels, and RUSS GIGUERE from The Association! One listen to this CD and you’ll wonder why Ruthann didn’t have more hits of the magnitude of "Windy.”
Mastered by Alan Brownstein FROM THE ORIGINAL MASTER TAPES!

The full-colour booklet includes rare photos and extensive liner notes featuring the participation of Ruthann herself!
