Dr Buzzard’s Original Savannah Band / Dr Buzzards’ Original Savannah Band Meets King Penett
Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band were one of the most original sounding outfits of the Disco era. A skillful blend of big band , Hollywood styled strings, swing influenced grooves and for 1976, modern rhythm and percussive techniques aimed directly at the dance floor.

They played around New York City and upstate usually dressed in cool 40's gangster garb; doubled breasted suits and fedora hats. They made a huge impact on clubs around the world and became regulars at Studio 54, New Yorks premier club and were feted as one of the new genres most creative practioners.

They were spotted by RCA Records and offered a contract. They sold a lot of records between 1976 and 1979 and here on one CD are the two biggest albums of their short lived career, Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band (1976) and Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band Meets King Penett (1978)

In 1979 Cory Daye left the group to pursue a solo career, teaming up with Sandy Linzer for the album Corey & Me and in 1981 August Darnell and Coati Mundi formed Kid Creole & The Coconuts, who enjoyed phenomenal success in Europe during the early 80s. Their third album, 1982's Tropical Gangsters, with the album reaching No.3 staying on the album chart for 40 weeks and all their singles top 10 hits in the UK.

The Fugitive Kind
This is a reissue of the influential "The Fugitive Kind” by Swans Way that was released on 03/11/1984. The band were tagged as leading lights of the "new jazz" movement of the early 1980's.
The album includes various versions of all their five singles ‘Theme From The Balcony’, ‘Soul Train’, ‘The Anchor’, ‘Illuminations’ and ‘When The Wild Calls’ dating from 1982-84.
This 16 track CD features the nine of the ten tracks from the original album plus seven bonus tracks, 12" versions of ‘Theme From The Balcony’, ‘Soul Train’, ‘When The Wild Calls’, full length versions of ‘The Anchor’ and ‘Hangover’, ‘Illuminations - extended pleasure’ and their cover of the Gershwin classic ‘Summertime’ (live).
‘Soul Train’ was a UK hit single in February 1984 and was considered a classic of its day.
Five bonus tracks are appearing on CD for the 1st time (tracks 11, 13, 14, 15 & 16).
This is the most complete collection of the band's material available.
The CD booklet features sleeve notes written by vocalist Maggie De Monde, a full UK discography with many images of the original sleeves and promotional material.
Swans Way were formed in Birmingham in 1982 with Maggie De Monde (vocals, percussion), Rick P. Jones (double bass)and vocalist Robert Shaw. The band were seen as part of the "new jazz" scene with the likes of Sade, Carmel and Blue Rondo a La Turk. They released a single on indie label Exit International and then signed to Phonogram. Swans Way's 2nd single ‘Soul Train’ was a top 20 hit with three further singles following on. The album 'The Fugitive Kind' was released and charted but it was more a critical rather than a commercial success with the band's experimental approach and sound being their lasting legacy to the sound of their day.

The Curse of The Higsons: Deluxe Edition

· The Higsons were founded in 1980 at the University of East Anglia by Charlie ‘Switch’ Higson, Terry Edwards, Simon Charterton, Colin Williams, Dave Cummings and Stuart McGeachin. Over a string of Indie singles and an album, they married disjointed punk/funk rhythms and warbling vocals in a style which betrayed their love of Talking Heads.

· After singles on local Norwich-based labels like Romans In Britain and Waap and two releases for 2Tone, the band signed to Upright for long-overdue album The Curse Of The Higsons in 1984. Charlie later excelled as a comedian and writer (not least in The Fast Show) while Terry has seemingly played every instrument with myriad different bands.

· Long out-of-print, The Curse Of The Higsons is now treated to a deluxe 3-CD set, compiled, mastered and approved by Terry Edwards and the rest of the band.

· This expanded version adds all the versions/tracks which graced their two collectable singles for 2Tone (‘Tear The Whole Thing Down’ and ‘Run Me Down’), plus other singles ‘Push Out The Boat’, their charming cover of Andy Williams’ ‘Music To Watch Girls By’ and a demo of their swansong, ‘Take It’, from 1985.

· As a bonus third disc, the hitherto cassette-only album Live At The Jacquard Club, Norwich makes its digital debut. Issued on Chaos Tapes, it is now swelled by five tracks from a Lyceum show in 1984, three of which are previously unissued..

Members of The Higsons, including Charlie, will be speaking about the band’s history as part of celebrations for UEA's 50th anniversary over the last weekend of September.
