Siren 2CD - Siren

Siren 2CD
Cherry Red is delighted to announce the next releases for the rejuvenated Turpentine Records, the label founded by the late singer-songwriter/author/artist KEVIN COYNE.
SIREN was the debut album by Kevin Coyne with Siren, the band he founded with former Bonzo Dog Band bassist Dave Clague and pianist/guitarist Nick Cudworth.
The LP was originally issued on John Peel’s Dandelion label in 1969.
SIREN has been out-of-print on CD for many years.
This deluxe 2-CD edition has been re-mastered, with a whole bonus disc of rare home and studio recordings from the period, previously only available on fanclub-style releases.
Also boasts the band’s first demo for Blue Horizon Records and non-album singles for Dandelion.
The booklet features new and insightful sleeve-notes written specially for this release by Nick Cudworth, and a rare piece by Kevin Coyne from 1970, written for the underground magazine KLAP.
Includes rare and previously unseen photos and cuttings of Siren in their heyday.
An in-depth look at an underrated band, and a fascinating glimpse at the formative recordings of an artist who would inspire John Lydon, Sting, Ben Watt and Will Oldham and would collaborate with Robert Wyatt, Andy Summers, Dagmar Krause, Brendan Croker, Gary Lucas and The Mekons’ Jon Langford.
"Most of the album is good time rock-on-out-music a la the Flamin’ Groovies… one of those (albums) you keep coming back to when the night gets cold and the wine is almost out. I play it a lot, and that’s the nicest thing I can say about an album.” Ed Ward - Rolling Stone
"Siren just came as a breath of fresh air really, in the same way that like a generation later The Ramones did. When you just thought 'Thank God for that!' You hadn't realised how bored you'd become…”

John Peel, 1997

Case History
Cherry Red is delighted to announce the next release for the rejuvenated Turpentine Records, the label founded by the late singer-songwriter/author/artist Kevin Coyne.
Case History was Kevin’s solo debut album for John Peel’s Dandelion Records, first issued in 1972. Having recorded two multi-faceted, blues-influenced albums with Siren, Coyne was exposed on Case History as a brutally emotional singer-songwriter who wrote with conviction and sang from the depth of his very soul.
Case History offers a fascinating glimpse into an artist in his prime, who would inspire John Lydon, Sting, Ben Watt and Will Oldham and would collaborate with Robert Wyatt, Andy Summers, Dagmar Krause, Brendan Croker, Gary Lucas and The Mekons’ Jon Langford.
Case History was only available briefly on vinyl on Dandelion before being deleted (the artist then signed with Virgin Records). The album has been unavailable on CD for some time and is now properly remastered.
This deluxe edition offers nine bonus tracks, including a near-ten-minute variation on My Message To The People and Doctor Love (which makes its debut on CD).
