The House Of Love 3CD Deluxe Edition - House Of Love

The House Of Love 3CD Deluxe Edition
THE HOUSE OF LOVE were one of the most successful and critically acclaimed bands to grace Creation Records back in the late 1980s.
Their eponymous debut album was cited as one of the best albums of 1988 by music magazines and Indie fans alike. It has been out-of-print on CD for some time now.
This deluxe edition of THE HOUSE OF LOVE offers the band’s complete Creation recordings from 1987-1988, together with a raft of previously unissued bonus material.
The package boasts all their Creation Records singles, from the original version of ‘Shine On’, ‘Real Animal’ and the US favourite ‘Christine’ (which reached #8 in the Modern Rock chart there) to their final single for the label, ‘Destroy The Heart’.
Disc 3 is devoted to nineteen hitherto unheard HOUSE OF LOVE demos, including two exclusive Guy Chadwick songs ‘Hold On Me’ and ‘Modern World’, which were never released!
Also making their debut on CD is the rare 7” album freebie (two demos) and the ‘Flexidisc’ version of ‘Shine On’, together with Guy’s original demo of this song which eventually gave them a sizeable hit.

This 3-CD package is housed in a stylish Digipak with fresh sleeve-notes and rare images from the band’s photographer Suzie Gibbons.

Birth, School, Work, Death
Released in February 1988, Birth, School, Work, Death jarred with both the indie movement which was obsessed with getting over the demise of the Smiths and the Housemartins, and the mainstream pop charts.

A tie-in gig at London s Town And Country Club in Kentish Town on Valentine sNight 1988 marked The Godfathers step into the big time. The album made No. 80 on the UK albums chart, where it remained for two weeks. However, in the states, the title track was pushed heavily by college radio, and it became an USTop 40 hit. Birth, School, Work, Death has got to be a bit of a high point, cause that took off instantly all over the world and it s turned into a little franchise of its own really, Peter Coyne was to say later.

Showbiz
Having departed the independent world and signed with A & M in 1991, CUD proceeded to pursue the commercial success their previous releases had hinted at with 1992'sAsquarius . Following this, their first hit album, proved to be the band'slongest break between releases (largely the result of some inter-label disharmony), but they eventually emerged in 1994 with Showbiz. Recorded primarily in Scotland (at a studio owned by Fish of Marillion fame, no less), this record saw their sound mature and showcased a broader range of songwriting styles than previous efforts. It was well received on its release in April 1994, garnering favourable reviews, and spawned two UK hit singles in Neurotica and One Giant Love. Sadly, though, the album proved to be the band'slast officially released effort as the pressures of life on a major and all that it entails took their toll on the band. This re-mastered version also includes a number of B-Sides from the albums single releases, as well as some unreleased out-takes and demo versions, including material intended for their next album, which hasn’t seen the light of day before now.
