New Musik formed in 1977 in London, growing out of a casual band of South London school friends who jammed together under the name End of the World. Songwriter and record producer Tony Mansfield was the lead vocalist and frontman for the band, and was joined in the original line-up by, bassist Tony Hibbert and drummer Phil Towner.Rather than immediately pursue a recording contract, New Musik chose to hone their craft first. Working during down times at a recording studio where Mansfield was informally employed as a session musician and apprentice sound engineer, the foursome recorded most of what would become their first two albums before approaching the UK record label, GTO Records with the finished master tapes. However, before GTO released the first New Musik single, Straight Lines, in August 1979, Straker had left for a solo career, He was replaced by Clive Gates, and the new line-up completed New Musik's debut album, From A to B, which was released in April 1980.New Musik made their first appearance on the BBC TV pop programme, Top of the Pops, in October 1979 with their debut Straight Lines, From A to B reached the Top 40 in the UK Albums Chart and contained four hit singles: Straight Lines, Living by Numbers, ThisWorld of Water and Sanctuary. The band also t opped the French singles chart with On Islands from the same album. The band's second album, Anywhere, was released in 1981 and reached #68 in the UK. The album's single releases, Luxury and While You Wait, did not chart. In 1981, a compilation album, Sanctuary, was released exclusively in the United States, consisting of four tracks from From A to B and eight from Anywhere

Shut Up And Bleed
Released 21/07/08. The seminal No - Wave band Teenage and Jesus and The Jerks were lead by primal screamer and guitarist Lydia Lunch, an individual who has fought her artistic way through the decades, always true to her own vision and always brutally honest. In early 1978, artist and producer Brian Eno attended a series of shows put on to benefit the Artist's Space in Soho and influenced Island Records to finance an anthology LP featuring the four strongest bands - Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, The Contortions, Mars and DNA. The resulting recording, entitled No New York and produced by Eno, remains as one of the most impressive and extraordinarily bold debuts of the time. Here we compiled all Teenage Jesus and The Jerks recordings, alongside some never previously released live material. Mojo Magazine awarded a very respectable 3 stars to this CD. Our Price: £9.95

Alone Together
One time Kim Fowley protégé, one time Spencer Davis guitar tech Dave Mason was a key and founder member of psych/pop/funk/soul/fusion legends Traffic. The writer of many of the band's early classics including the timeless and much-covered Feelin Alright? Mason was the first to leave due to the classic 'musical differences. Moving to the US, his first solo album was one of the many recordings to come out of the Leon Russell/Delaney & Bonnie axis in1969/1970. Alone Together contains excellent, tightly constructed pop songs, redolent of his singles for Traffic, albeit extended in the then new style, built on a fat bed of acoustic guitars with tasteful electric guitar accents. Mason's vocals are embellished with harmonies from Rita Coolidge, Claudia Lennear and Delaney & Bonnie. Besides the hit Only You Know and I Know , (also a hit for Delaney & Bonnie) highlights include the bouncy gospel-inflected Waitin' On You and the banjo-bejeweled Just a Song . Look at You Look at Me and the wonderfully wah-wahed Shouldn't Have Took More Than You Gave are reminiscent of Traffic, whose drummer, Jim Capaldi is among the all-star cast assembled here. Journey To A Plugged In State Of Mind Electronic Music : 100 Years Of Experimention And Exploitation
The story of electronic music and composition has, in recent decades, become a significant musical legacy. Seen by many as a novelty for a long time, the synthesiser and drum machine derived pop of the late 1970s and early 1980s finally landed the squeals and squelches of solder and circuit y in the mainstream, validating an extensive period of painstaking research and experimentation dating back to the late 19th Century. The connect ion between Edgard Varese, La Roux, Brian Eno, The Human League and The Plastic Cow Goes Moo is a complex and solder-heavy one. A Plugged In State Of Mind explores this long and exhaustive legacy and unearths the greatest albums, experiences and tunes from over a century of electronic sound. From anarchic sound art manifestos of the early 1900s to the three minute radio-friendly hits of the late Twentieth Century, via tape manipulations, WWII surplus gadgetry, synthetic versions of the Beat les and the development and domination of the synthesiser, the sequencer and their descendants which form the basic building blocks of much of the music we listen to today, the history of electronic music is a strange wonderland of cosmic highs and offbeat creativity; a story never less than compelling in its experimentalism and competitiveness. Key works by familiar early innovators such as Schaeffer, Cage, Stockhausen, Henry and Varese are explored, along with modern envelope pushers such as Aphex Twin and Squarepusher and lesser known unsung heroes and key equipment, such as The IBM 7090 Computer and Digital To Sound Transducer and The CSIRAC Computer. Key recordings are used as chronological touchstones for the story, and provide the reader with highly recommended entry points into this sometimes challenging universe. The author’s familiar, joyful style also lends a very accessible air to the subj ect . A companion CD set is also scheduled for release around the time of publication, and we anticipate a good deal of press and enthusiasm for a subject that any music fan or enthusiast for human technological development will find intriguing. Dave Henderson was managing director of Q, Mojo and Kerrang! for ten years. A former Sounds journalist who wrote about everything from Cabaret Voltaire to Can, Depeche Mode to Klaus Schulze, his foray into the history of electronic music has been many years in the making, and the resultant vinyl collection constitutes a legacy to some of the wildest material ever released.
