The Looks Or The Lifestyle-Expanded Edition - Pop Will Eat Itself

The Looks Or The Lifestyle-Expanded Edition
In 1992, PWEI took the radical step of recruiting a drummer, one Fuzz Townsend.  After honing their hip hop / techno / rock fusion over three previous albums, "The Looks Or The Lifestyle” saw them take a more traditional, ‘song’ orientated approach, whilst managing to retain their live popularity and increase their commercial success. The record bore several hit singles (‘Karmadrome’, ‘Bulletproof’, ‘Get The Girl! Kill The Baddies’) and also introduced them to a new audience in the wake of the grunge explosion of 1991.

Spread across 2CDs, this set presents a fascinating insight into the album’s development, containing nine of the band’s own ‘bedroom’ demos for the album, recorded before the recruitment of a drummer (including a song which was never released), alongside the best of the b-sides and remixes from this period in their career and a promo only version of ‘Get The Girl!’.

Accompanied by sleeve-notes by the band’s own Adam Mole, an essay on this period and some fantastic archive images, this package provides a fascinating insight into a very successful era of change in PWEI’s career.

A must have package for any PWEI fan, and a brilliant showcase of a remarkable album. This record has international appeal and promises to put the band’s trailblazing career under the microscope again.

Now For A Feast : EXPANDED 25th ANNIVERSARY EDITION
In 1986, Pop Will Eat Itself burst onto the UK and European independent scene with a flurry of energetic, punk infused singles, including their self pressed and distributed debut, Poppies Say GRRrrr! and others released by Chapter 22. During that year they became mainstays of the UK music press and blazed a trail towards the hip-hop tinged direction they would take with their second album, Box Frenzy . This set charts this first year of the band's career, including seven previously unheard demos and live cuts from the band's own archives and a number of later b-sides. Including a previously unreleased song ( Summer Girl ), early incarnations of tracks re-recorded and released in later years and demos of the impossible to find debut EP by Wild and Wandering (the name the band operated under before becoming PWEI), this really is a treasure trove for fans and collectors.

Produced with full co-operation and support from the band members, and including both an essay and sleeve-notes from keyboardist/guitarist Adam Mole, as well as never before seen archive shots and press clippings, this package is the first in a series of Cherry Red Pop Will Eat Itself reissues which will take in the band's entire catalogue, tell their story and see the release of dozens of unreleased, rare and never before on CD tracks. This unique band, whose influence touched the careers of acts such as The Prodigy and Nine Inch Nails, still has a large, strong following worldwide, and there is an active online community who have shown great interest in these titles thus far. A new PWEI album will be released this year, and the current incarnation of the group will be touring in support of this release, no doubt including plenty of their back catalogue in their set. Seven previously unheard recordings, Two rare B-sides Sleeve-notes from keyboardist/guitarist Adam Mole Archive photographs and press clippings Packaged with reversible US/UK original artwork.

"Their earliest indie rock scuzz is collected on ‘88’s Now For A Feast!, by which time ‘87’s Box Frenzy had incorporated sampling and other hip hop moves into proto-indie dance off daffy joie de vivre. Both come engorged with bonuses, some of which seem to have been mastered off old cassettes.”

This Is The Day…This Is The Hour…This Is This! Expanded Edition
Following a series of independent chart successes released on Chapter 22 Records, PWEI were, in 1988, signed to BMG and produced this, arguably their most iconic album. Boasting indie dance-floor classics ‘Def Con One’ and ‘Can U Dig It?’, as well as a number of other standout tracks and fan favourites (‘Wise Up! Sucker’, ‘Preaching To The Perverted’ etc), this record took the band’s appeal beyond the UK and into America and Australia, as well as furthering interest throughout Europe. A furious blend of dance, hip-hop, rock and techno, "This Is This” was truly ahead of it’s time, and blazed a trail that would eventually lead to The Prodigy and several other rock-techno acts who thrived during the early 1990s.

Expanded here into a 2CD edition, and produced in conjunction with the band themselves, this incredible package features a plethora of b-sides, rare remixes, demos (from the band’s archives) and never before heard tracks from the BMG archives, including the legendary lost ‘Very Metal Noise Pollution’ EP 12” mixes, early versions of two of the album’s singles and an early recording of a track from 1990’s follow up album "The PWEI Cure For Sanity”.

Added to this, the package features sleeve-notes by the band’s own Adam Mole, an essay on this period of their career and some fantastic archive images. All reissues should be of this standard.

A must have package for any PWEI fan, and a brilliant showcase of a remarkable album. This record has international appeal and promises to put the band’s trailblazing career under the microscope again.

The PWEI Cure For Sanity-Expanded Edition
Their second major label release, "Cure For Sanity” saw PWEI head in a more dancefloor orientated direction, whilst maintaining the tongue in cheek approach to lyrics and the cut and paste sampling techniques of their two previous albums. Featuring four hugely successful singles in ‘Touched By The Hand Of Cicciolina’, ‘Dance Of The Mad’, ‘X, Y and Zee’ and ‘92 Degrees’, the record increased their fanbase in the UK and across the globe whilst also sending them into the UK charts and into the clubs via a number of great remixes.

Presented here across 2CDs, this package features the original album (restored to it’s original running order, as opposed to the ‘single edits’ version released in 1991), a number of rare tracks and remixes (including tracks previously only available on vinyl or promotional cassettes) and never before heard versions of album and single tracks from the BMG archives.

"By continuing to take their cue from the like of Public Enemy and Beastie Boys, and adding an English twist to their version of things, they consolidated their position as Britain’s leading indie/hip hop/techno crossover outfit.”

Dos Dedos Mis Amigos/A Lick of the Old Cassette Box
By 1994, Pop Will Eat Itself had developed from indie dancefloor friendly rock rappers into an angry, proto industrial machine. Signed to a new independent label, Infectious Records, they continued their steady stream of hit singles ('Ich Bin Ein Auslander', 'RSVP', 'Everything's Cool') and began to make serious inroads in America, thanks to their association with Trent Reznor and his Nothing label.

'Dos Dedos Mis Amigos' charted around Europe and in the US, and saw the band's profile rise considerably. The tracks also spawned a successful double album of remixes, 'Two Fingers My Friends', in 1995 and a follow up album was hotly anticipated. However, after the departure of Graham Crabb the band gradually imploded, leaving a new album's worth of recordings unreleased. Until now.

Produced in conjunction with the band, 'A Lick Of The Old Cassette Box' compiles twelve unreleased songs recorded in 1995 and 1996, and heard here for the very first time. Heavy on riffs and beats, this is the blueprint for the industrial crossover sound The Prodigy were about to fill stadiums around the world with in the late 1990s. Accompanied by detailed liner notes from guitarist Adam Mole, this 'lost' album is a must hear for diehards and casual fans alike.

  • Remastered and expanded
  • Contains three UK hit singles, demos and selected b-sides and remixes.
  • Also contains an entire unreleased album
  • Detailed essey and liner notes from guitarist Adam Mole
  • Produced in conjunction with the band, including edits and track sequencing by Clint
