Now For A Feast : EXPANDED 25th ANNIVERSARY EDITION - Pop Will Eat Itself

Now For A Feast : EXPANDED 25th ANNIVERSARY EDITION
In 1986, Pop Will Eat Itself burst onto the UK and European independent scene with a flurry of energetic, punk infused singles, including their self pressed and distributed debut, Poppies Say GRRrrr! and others released by Chapter 22. During that year they became mainstays of the UK music press and blazed a trail towards the hip-hop tinged direction they would take with their second album, Box Frenzy . This set charts this first year of the band's career, including seven previously unheard demos and live cuts from the band's own archives and a number of later b-sides. Including a previously unreleased song ( Summer Girl ), early incarnations of tracks re-recorded and released in later years and demos of the impossible to find debut EP by Wild and Wandering (the name the band operated under before becoming PWEI), this really is a treasure trove for fans and collectors.

Produced with full co-operation and support from the band members, and including both an essay and sleeve-notes from keyboardist/guitarist Adam Mole, as well as never before seen archive shots and press clippings, this package is the first in a series of Cherry Red Pop Will Eat Itself reissues which will take in the band's entire catalogue, tell their story and see the release of dozens of unreleased, rare and never before on CD tracks. This unique band, whose influence touched the careers of acts such as The Prodigy and Nine Inch Nails, still has a large, strong following worldwide, and there is an active online community who have shown great interest in these titles thus far. A new PWEI album will be released this year, and the current incarnation of the group will be touring in support of this release, no doubt including plenty of their back catalogue in their set. Seven previously unheard recordings, Two rare B-sides Sleeve-notes from keyboardist/guitarist Adam Mole Archive photographs and press clippings Packaged with reversible US/UK original artwork.

Press:-

"Their earliest indie rock scuzz is collected on ‘88’s Now For A Feast!, by which time ‘87’s Box Frenzy had incorporated sampling and other hip hop moves into proto-indie dance off daffy joie de vivre. Both come engorged with bonuses, some of which seem to have been mastered off old cassettes.”

Wings Of Joy
Originally released in 1991, the seminal debut from The Cranes, Portsmouth’s most important band, sees its first re-issue on Cherry Red. The album features 7 bonus tracks that accompanied the original release, 4 of which were on a limited edition CD and 3 that were available only as a limited edition 12" with the vinyl version. The CD booklet includes the band's UK Discography from their most productive period when signed to the Dedicated label. The artwork features the original sleeve and new liner notes telling the story of the band's creation, to signing their deal with Dedicated and includes excerpts of the original press reviews of the album from the NME and Melody Maker. Cranes remain a unique band in the modern history of the UK's serious music scene. They were an antidote to the bland and contrived acts that peppered the charts at the time, their experimental approach to making music has a lasting credibility that is still relevant today. The Independent Singles Collection
Suave; debonair; sophisticated. Haughty, perhaps, for those who favour the pejorative. Aristocratic in more than one sense, classy in at least as many. The Monochrome Set were effortlessly inventive, literate, poised and immaculate of tuneage, possessed of an internal dialogue as a band that allowed them to surf their own narrative. They were just unlike anything else, in layman'sterms. Instead, their sound harked back to a golden era of British pop songwriters. But there was nothing retrogressive about their endeavors. Instead they wrote songs that recreated the drama and promise of a Pearl & Dean interval theme, veering from lullaby to mambo to harmonic pop, accompanied by lush melodies and irresistibly playful lyrics that embraced morbidity at one extreme, and pitch-perfect satire at another.. Brand new release of Monochrome Set'scomplete independent singles collection including b-sides and rare tracks Norman Cook aka Fatboy Slim, a long-term fan of the band, has recorded a cover of He's Frank with guest vocals by Iggy Pop and indeed this version has already been broadcast in Heroes.

In 1987, Pop Will Eat Itself surprised the independent music world by morphing overnight from two minute, three chord indie pop wonders into hip-hop rock crossover pioneers. Featuring the notorious Beaver Patrol single, and the hugely successful There IsNo Love Between UsAnymore , the album brought the band a whole new audience and opened them up to as much praise as it did ridicule amongst a perplexed music press.Produced with the band’s assistance and approval, and featuring three never before heard home demos and three rare, never before on CD tracks, as well as an extensive sleeve essay, sleevenotes from keyboardist/guitarist Adam Mole and a wealth of unseen photographs, press clippings and so on, this release is a treasure trove for fans and collectors alike.

A new PWEI album will be released this year, and the current incarnation of the group will be touring in support of this release, no doubt including plenty of these back catalogue tracks in their set.
