Live At The Hurrah - Young Marble Giants

Live At The Hurrah
To accompany our recent DVD release, we are pleased to announce the release of a the first ever full live album release to feature the Young Marble Giants, “Live At The Hurrah”. YMG formed in 1979 and were a three-piece from Cardiff, Wales consisting of Stuart Moxham (guitars, keyboards), his brother Phil (bass), and Alison Statton (voice). Their recording career lasted only two years but they garnered a loyal and devoted fan base that still exists to this day. They recorded one classic album, “Colossal Youth”, for Rough Trade Records and performed two short tours of the Europe and the U.S. in 1980. On their return from the U.S. tensions in the band led to their split. The name and legend of the band has continued to flourish, with websites devoted to them and releases of rare material from their back catalogue. “Live At The Hurrah” captures the band in full flight at New York’s Hurrah Club during that legendary 1980 U.S. tour, making this a unique release for all YMG fans. Amongst the tracks featured are Independent chart top ten hit “Final Days”.

Love, Poetry And Revolution
Cherry Red’s dedicated UK psych imprint Grapefruit is proud to announce the release in October of the 3CD anthology Love, Poetry and Revolution: a journey through the British psychedelic and underground scenes 1966-1972. · Housed in a clambox with a lavishly annotated and illustrated 36 page booklet, this important release features much rare material, including previously unissued demo recordings by Tintern Abbey and Blossom Toes.

Various heavyweight underground bands (The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown, Hawkwind, The Deviants, etc) rub shoulders with acts who recorded some of the rarest, most valuable albums of the era (Forever Amber, Complex, Peter Howell & John Ferdinando), while the box also includes a number of subterranean bands - Middle Earth regulars Jade Hexagram, Neon Pearl, Respect and others – who failed to release anything during their lifetime. ·

Embracing psychedelic pop (The Mirage, Jason Crest, Shy Limbs, Crocheted Doughnut Ring etc), the burgeoning progressive rock scene (T2, Czar, Fat Mattress) and acid folk (the likes of Simon Finn and Mark Fry), Love, Poetry and Revolution draws on a number of catalogues, including Beacon (The Fut, Information, pre-Damned act Taiconderoga), the Vic Keary stable and various collector labels (Sunbeam, Acme, Tenth Planet/Wooden Hill) to give a fascinating, all-embracing overview of what was a tumultuous few years in British pop/rock history.

Cab Driver - The Dot & Paramount Years 1958-1972
After a long and illustrious recording career that had spawned over 60 major US Pop hits for Brunswick and Decca Records, respectively, the Mills Brothers took a new direction and signed to Paramount’s recently acquired subsidiary, Dot.

Commencing in 1958, their spell with the label and its parent company lasted some twelve years, and produced some of the group’s finest works, including seven chart hits, four of which make their CD debut on this set.

This long overdue collection, comprising the best of their Dot and Paramount singles, highlights an almost forgotten chapter in the career of what were arguably the most successful and influential vocal group in the history of recorded music. · From Doo Wop to Country, Jazz, to mainstream Pop, the quality of the music and group’s inimitable, laid back delivery both remain consistent throughout, and with most of the material officially unavailable since its original release, music fans can finally discover the Mills Brothers could still swing even after the Beatles had broken up!

Élucubrations (Antoine On 45 1965–1966)

Elucubrations – Antoine on 45 1965–1966 is the first time the complete tracks from the earliest EPs  by France’s Antoine have been collected – including, as a special bonus, the first-ever reissue of his rare English-language single from 1966.

Antoine was France’s Bob Dylan – his every song a word-filled counterpart to ‘Subterranean Homesick Blues’.

He made waves. France had never seen or heard anything like Antoine. Johnny Hallyday ridiculed his long hair in song. Jacques Dutronc made his debut single ‘Et Mo Et Moi Et Moi’ as a comment on Antoine. He hung out in New York with the Velvet Underground.

His early releases were joyful, tumbling slices of commentary on the issues of the day from war, to the generation gap.

Now he is known from books and television as globe-trotting adventurer, sailing the world’s oceans. This is where the journey began.
