Psychedelic Rose - Creation (The)

Psychedelic Rose
Their songs have been covered by acts as diverse as Ride, Boney M and the Sex Pistols; they impressed Pete Townshend so much that he asked their guitarist to join the already successful Who; said guitarist pioneered the use of the violin bow on guitar strings - a trick promptly lifted and made famous by Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page; they inspired the name of Creation Records, the most influential record label of the '90s; they have been cited as an influence by Paul Weller, Alan McGee, Ride, Pete Townshend, John Lydon and others. Yet The Creation never had a bona fide hit single in either Britain or the US. They had a recording career that spanned merely mid-1966 to early 1968 and never - in their original incarnation - released an album on either side of the Atlantic. The Creation are pop's quintessential example of Never Mind The Career Width, Feel The Musical Quality. Their compositions 'Makin' Time' , 'Painter Man', 'Biff Bang Pow', 'Nightmares', 'Can I Join Your Band', 'Life Is Just Beginning', 'Through your Eyes', 'How Does It Feel To Feel' and others helped define psychedelia and pop art and are cherished by several different generations of music fans. The Creation were undoubtedly one of the most under appreciated bands to emerge from the UK during the 1960's, but their legend has grown with time and this album, recorded in 1987 and 1988 and never been released before in any form, is a testament to their enduring legacy. You know the story, you know the legend, this is the long lost album.

Feelin’ Free
Released 20/07/2009. Although Feelin Free was released to widespread indifference back in January 1970, the sole album by Manchester band Pacific Drift remains a sparkling, West Coast-influenced amalgam of post-psychedelic pop and early progressive rock, skilfully weaving wistful laments and riff-laden rockers into a fully cohesive whole. This first-ever authorised reissue of what is now a highly sought-after LP adds three tracks that appeared on the variant US release of the album as well as the band s version of the Spirit track Water Woman , only released at the time as a UK single. With some superb previously unpublished photos, new band quotes and master-tape sound quality, this longoverdue release is the first to assemble all known Pacific Drift recordings under one roof, and is unquestionably the definitive anthology of an unfairly neglected band. One Track Mind: The Garage Pop Sound of the Knickerbockers
When Lenny Kaye’s original, life-affirming Nuggets anthology of mid-’60s US garage bands appeared out of nowhere in 1972, it sent a worldwide army of enthusiasts scurrying off to track down the complete recorded works of the featured groups. It took a while for them to discover that many acts had summoned up whatever artless teenage genius they possessed solely for the duration of one unfeasibly perfect three-chord, two-minute blast.

The Knickerbockers, however, were the exception that proved the rule. Represented on Nuggets by their uncanny Beatles soundalike single ‘Lies’, the group had actually cut a whole stack of bona fide garage pop gems – including follow-up singles ‘One Track Mind’ and the controversial, psychedelically-oriented ‘High On Love’ - during a relatively lengthy career that also saw them dabble with varying degrees of success in big production MOR pop, Four Seasons-style harmony outings and Righteous Brothers-influenced blue-eyed soul.

One Track Mind: The Garage Pop Sound of the Knickerbockers does exactly what it says on the tin, eschewing the group’s more anodyne work to concentrate on showcasing the Knickerbockers doing what they did best: hook-laden, garage-oriented teen pop that was heavily influenced by the British Invasion. Here, then, is the definitive, all-killer-no-filler compilation of thirty original Knickerbockers artyfacts from the first psychedelic era…

Western Flier

ESOTERIC RECORDINGS are pleased to announce a newly remastered edition of the classic Psychedelic album "Western Flier” by HAPSHASH and the COLOURED COAT, Psychedelic graphic designers and darlings of London’s Underground scene Michael English and Nigel Waymouth. Being responsible for a series of legendary posters for artists such as the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Traffic, Tomorrow, Soft Machine, Pink Floyd, The Who et al, Waymouth and English ventured into music after being persuaded to do so by friend, DJ and manager Guy Stevens. The first Hapshash album, "Featuring Human Host and the Heavy Metal Kids” featured the musicians from the band Art, later to become Spooky Tooth, and appeared on the Liberty’s Minit label in 1967 and was a combination of electronic madness and improvised psychedelic freeform freak-out. By the end of 1968, the diversion from graphic art into music led to the end of the Waymouth / English partnership. Waymouth retained the name Hapshash and the Coloured Coat and signed a contract for a new album with Liberty Records. Entering the studio with Liberty staff producer Mike Batt and session musicians such as Tony McPhee (of the Groundhogs), drummer Andy Renton, guitarist Michael Mayhew, bass player Eddie Tripp and violinist Freddie Ballerini, the album "Western Flier” was the result.

This Esoteric Recordings edition has been remastered from the original master tapes and includes a booklet that restores the original album artwork and a new essay.
