Ultra Modern Nursery Rhymes - Terry Blair And Anoushka

Ultra Modern Nursery Rhymes
Terry Hall has enjoyed almost two decades of success with several bands including The Specials, Fun Boy Three and Vegas, and also as a solo artist. This album showcases Hall’s talents alongside collaborators Blair Booth and Anoushka Groce. A must for Terry Hall fans, the album was originally released in 1989 and has become a forgotten gem of Hall’s wilful and often brilliant career. The album explores the trio’s love of sixties pop, with a breezy and light musical feel, though the lyrical concerns are at times downbeat and a little kitsch.

Oil And Gold
Released 15/08/11. Oil & Gold, the third full-length Shriekback
album, is widely considered the band's best. Released in 1985 on Island
Records, Oil & Gold saw the band metamorphose from contemplative to
rocking. The addition of Martyn Barker on drums and Lu Edmonds (Ex
Damned) on guitar gives many of the songs an almost punk rock feeling.Oil
& Gold is the bridge between the old trio of Barry Andrews, Carl
Marsh, and Dave Allen, and the new vehicle for Andrews alone. Longtime
singer Marsh left the band halfway through the recording, leaving
Andrews to take over the vocals, the album's highlights, including the
three opening songs, sung by Marsh, and the hit, Nemesis, became the
band's signature sound. This enhanced edition comes with a newly
remastered bonus disc for B-Sides - some never before released on CD -
as well as a enhanced booklet with new notes

Sea Side Shuffle
Joining a list of non hit UK bands who subsequently scored hits under a pseudonym (e.g. Stavely Makepeace = Lieutenant Pigeon ) blues rockers Brett Marvin and the Thunderbolts reached no.2 in the UK with Sea Side Shuffle in 1972, under the one-off jokey name Terry Dactyl & The Dinosaurs. There followed two more singles and an album using the name. The final single (She Left, I Died b/w Too Self Centered) has not been reissued before. Seaside Shuffle had originally been released by the production company Sonet in 1971, having previously released the first two B,M & T LPs. When the UK label took a license and promoted the single the following year then the international hit was scored. Differing to their parent group Terry Dactyl & The Dinosaurs served up an interesting blend of jug band and acoustic blues shuffle style sounds, not a long way from contemporaries Bronx Cheer and Mungo Jerry. Consider the instruments involved for a further clue as to the sonic atmosphere which, alongside your guitars and piano, include: African Whistle, Siren, Asba, Tin Cans, Kazoo, Zobstick, Woodblocks, Washboard, Dustbin, Rubber Duck ! It was also on the singles that the genius of singer Jona Lewsie began to shine. He of course would later achieve huge international success as a solo artist..
