Cutting Edge Retro: A Mood Six Anthology - Mood Six

Cutting Edge Retro: A Mood Six Anthology
Neo-psychedelic combo Mood Six was formed in London's West End in 1982; emerging from the remnants of mod revival groups like the Merton Parkas and the VIP's, their original line-up included Phil Ward, Tony Conway, Andy Godfrey, Guy Morley, Paul Shurey, and Simon Smith. Debuting with a pair of tracks on the "A Splash of Colour" compilation, the group immediately launched itself to the forefront of the short-lived British psychedelia revival. Signing to EMI, Mood Six issued their first official single, "Hanging Around", but were dismissed from the label when the follow-up, "She's Too Far (Out)", proved a commercial disappointment.

This anthology double-album gives no emphasis to the early period but begins from 1984, when the false glitter and pretence was stripped away and a more honest band emerged. Cherry Red Records have carefully reproduced the majority of their creative output, which includes three albums: "The Difference Is..." (Psycho 1985); "A Matter Of" (Cherry Red 1986); "And This Is It" (Lost Recording Co 1993); several singles and a bunch of odds and ends, (including two new tracks: "A Perfect World" and "Misunderstandings" - these tracks are the strange fruits of a series of songwriting and demo-ing sessions held in a north London flat in 2002) We're happy to introduce this unique package and are confident of receiving good press and radio exposure. Mood Six "Cutting Edge Retro: A Mood Six Anthology" is another fantastic package from the prolific Cherry Red Records. A double-album anthology featuring album tracks, singles, b-sides, rarities and 2 brand new, previously unreleased songs.

Gypsy Creams & Ginger Nuts - The Redifunk Of Rediffusion
For volume 10 in our Mood Mosaic series, exploring the non-traditional outlets for cool sounds of the 60's and 70's, we pay homage to the record label spawned from Associated Rediffusion TV. We've been used to compilations being released from the great productions libraries such as KPM and Chappells, whose music graced many a TV soundtrack and advertising sound bed. Our focus this time is on a production source that began life as Reditune in 1954, supplying the piped music for places new to the postwar world such as supermarkets and airports. Business was booming and in 1968 a record label arm was formed as a further outlet for the music being produced in-house called Rediffusion International Music. A good many young arrangers and session players were cutting their teeth on these sessions, further contributing cracking original tunes. Names that have become legend in lounge-core circles such as Harry Stoneham, Pete Moore, Alan Moorhouse, Tony Osborne. This is the first album compilation solely focusing on the Rediffusion catalogue and story, insuring that Gypsy Creams and Ginger Nuts is a tasty package indeed!
