Cutting Edge Retro: A Mood Six Anthology - Mood Six

Cutting Edge Retro: A Mood Six Anthology
Neo-psychedelic combo Mood Six was formed in London's West End in 1982; emerging from the remnants of mod revival groups like the Merton Parkas and the VIP's, their original line-up included Phil Ward, Tony Conway, Andy Godfrey, Guy Morley, Paul Shurey, and Simon Smith. Debuting with a pair of tracks on the "A Splash of Colour" compilation, the group immediately launched itself to the forefront of the short-lived British psychedelia revival. Signing to EMI, Mood Six issued their first official single, "Hanging Around", but were dismissed from the label when the follow-up, "She's Too Far (Out)", proved a commercial disappointment. This anthology double-album gives no emphasis to the early period but begins from 1984, when the false glitter and pretence was stripped away and a more honest band emerged. Cherry Red Records have carefully reproduced the majority of their creative output, which includes three albums: "The Difference Is..." (Psycho 1985); "A Matter Of" (Cherry Red 1986); "And This Is It" (Lost Recording Co 1993); several singles and a bunch of odds and ends, (including two new tracks: "A Perfect World" and "Misunderstandings" - these tracks are the strange fruits of a series of songwriting and demo-ing sessions held in a north London flat in 2002) We're happy to introduce this unique package and are confident of receiving good press and radio exposure. Mood Six "Cutting Edge Retro: A Mood Six Anthology" is another fantastic package from the prolific Cherry Red Records. A double-album anthology featuring album tracks, singles, b-sides, rarities and 2 brand new, previously unreleased songs.

Headland / The Clocks Go Backwards
Originally issued by Midnight Music in 1990, Headland was the fifth full length offering proper from this much loved North London outfit. Accompanied by the The Clocks Go Backwards EP , which is comprised of songs recorded whilst preparing to make Headland , this package now presents a full picture of the intriguing, Simon Allard (Garce to his friends) led act at the turn of the decade.  Recorded in London during late 1989 and early 1990, by the line up of Garce, McGuinness, Silver, Sainsbury and Pollard, Headland captures the band at a time when UK interest was waning but their popularity in Europe was on the increase. This, combined with record company problems, meant that the album's release was delayed and, when it did eventually surface, little promotion was offered. As such it disappeared fairly quickly and thus remains a great lost gem within the band s catalogue.  Headland offers an immaculate example of epic, ambitious late 1980s pop, laced with synthesiser washes, reverb drenched guitars, huge drums and grandiose, emotive vocal performances, offering, perhaps, a darker side of avenues also explored by more main stream acts such as Cutting Crew. The four bonus tracks, which constitute the Clocks Go Backwards EP (also released in 1990), offer a more direct, stripped back sound, and, as such, further insight into the band s position around this time, making this package a concise, complete take on this era of the band's career.
