The Best Of - One and One Is One - Medicine Head

The Best Of - One and One Is One
Released 20/04/09. John Fiddler (guitar, vocals) and Peter Hope-Evans (harmonica) were the group to inspire DJ John Peel to found his Dandelion label. They were also his best-selling act. Along with Jethro Tull, Tyrannosaurus Rex and Family, Medicine Head were one of the groups to cross over from underground to chart in the late 60s/early 70s without losing credibility. Highlights include tracks such as Thou Shalt Not Pass and Back To The Wall never before available on UK CD, and a cover version of Robert Johnson’s Walking Blues.

Cactus / One Way… Or Another 2CD
Formed in 1969 by former members of Vanilla Fudge - Tim Bogert on bass and Carmine Appice on drums - Cactus released their self-titled debut on the Atco label in 1970. Although originally slated to feature Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck, the line-up would be cemented by Jim McCarty (from Mitch Ryder's Detroit Wheels and The Buddy Miles Express) on guitar and Rusty Day (from Ted Nugent’s original band, The Amboy Dukes) on vocals and harmonica; the line-up that would record the band’s first three LPs.
Among the originals on the first disc of this 2 CD set, are covers of Mose Allison's blues standard ‘Parchman Farm’ (also covered by proto-metal band Blue Cheer), plus Willie Dixon's ‘You Can't Judge a Book by the Cover’.
Releasing their second LP in 1971 (disc 2 of this set), "One Way...Or Another” was recorded at Jimi Hendrix’s Electric Lady Studios in New York, and also includes two classic covers in Little Richard's ‘Long Tall Sally’ and Chuck Willis' ‘Feel So Bad’.
With remastered audio, and four bonus tracks, this set features liner notes from Classic Rock’s Malcolm Dome based on recent interviews with founder member Carmine Appice. Cactus are currently touring with a line-up of Jim McCarty, Carmine Appice, Jimmy Kunes, Pete Bremy and Randy Pratt.

Restrictions / ’Ot ‘N’ Sweaty 2CD
Cactus were formed in 1969 by founder members of Vanilla Fudge; Tim Bogert on bass and Carmine Appice on drums. Although originally planned to feature Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck, Cactus’s line-up was eventually completed by Jim McCarty (from Mitch Ryder's Detroit Wheels and The Buddy Miles Express) on guitar and Rusty Day (from The Amboy Dukes) on vocals and harmonica.
Their bluesy, gritty rock became a big influence on future generations of hard rock and heavy metal bands, including Montrose, AC/DC, Van Halen and Monster Magnet.
Following "Restrictions”, the third and last LP to feature Jim McCarty and Rusty Day, they were joined for "’Ot ‘N’ Sweaty” by Leaf Hound and Atomic Rooster vocalist Pete French, Werner Fritzschings (guitar) and Duane Hitchings (keyboards). The first side of the original LP was recorded live in Puerto Rico at the Mar y Sol pop festival, and the second featuring studio recordings - the album ends with a somewhat incongruous cover of ‘Underneath The Arches’, inspired by touring with Rod Stewart & The Faces.
With remastered audio and one bonus track, this set features liner notes from Classic Rock’s Malcolm Dome based on recent interviews with Carmine Appice. Cactus are currently touring with a line-up featuring McCarty and Appice.
