The Remix Anthology - Eighth Wonder

The Remix Anthology
A unique release bringing together a remix collection of Eighth Wonder's best loved singles spanning their career 1985-1989.

•    This 12 track collection brings together extended versions and remixes of all the band's singles.

•    Three versions appear of the band's best-selling single ‘I'm Not Scared’ - Disco Mix, Little Louie Vega Mix and 10" Remix. The single peaked at #7 in the UK chart and was written and co-produced by The Pet Shop Boys.

•    Two versions also feature of the band's other best known single ‘Cross My Heart’  - House Mix and Club Mix. The single was a #13 hit in the UK and top 20 across Europe. It also featured in the top 20 of the US Dance charts.

•    This CD includes a newly designed sleeve, a comprehensive UK discography and extensive sleeve notes.

•    The band was fronted by singer and film star Patsy Kensit. The band went on to  enjoy widespread chart success across Europe, America and Japan. The band had five Top 5 hits in Japan including three #1's.

•    This album features remixes by Little Louie Vega, David Leonard, Pete Hammond, Richard James Burgess, Alan Shacklock, Pet Shop Boys & Phil Harding.

•    Included are two versions only previously available in the U.S. Cross My Heart - Club Mix & I'm Not Scared - Little Louie Vega Mix.

•    Tracks 1, 2, 3, 4, 10 and 11 appear on CD in the UK for the first time.

•    Patsy Kensit first came to the attention of the world as a 4 year old actress, fronting the Birds Eye Peas TV advert in the 1970's. Eighth Wonder were formed by her brother Jamie, and he drafted Patsy in as the band's front person and the band went on to cause quite a stir amongst the A&R departments around London, eventually signing to CBS Records in early 1985. The band enjoyed immediate and continued success in Japan and Italy but it took longer for the UK market to support the band. The band released on studio album 'Fearless' in 1988 before the band’s untimely split in 1989. Patsy Kensit throughout her life has continued with a very successful career as an actress starring in Absolute Beginners, Lethal Weapon 2 and The Great Gatsby. She has latterly turned her attention to TV dramas with roles in perennial favourites,  Emmerdale and Holby City.

Soulstream

Released on 26/09/2011. ‘Soulstream’ is the third solo album by Holly Johnson, the former lead singer of Frankie Goes To Hollywood. This expanded 2 disc re-issue of 'Soulstream' includes a bonus disc collecting together and celebrating the many dance remixes that were commissioned to promote the album on the queercore dance floors of the time as well as other rarities. It also comes with an extensive 24 page booklet containing lyrics, period photos and an introduction by Holly himself. Originally released in 1999, it was recorded initially in Holly’s home studio with additional strings and brass added in Angel, CTS and Metropolis Studios where it was mastered by Ian Cooper. Originally released on his own ‘Pleasuredome’ record label, the album contains the singles ‘Hallelujah’, ‘Disco Heaven’ and a re-working of his hit song with Frankie Goes to Hollywood, ‘The Power Of Love’.

Another highlight is an update of his resolutelydefiant 1994 anthem ‘Legendary Children (All of Them Queer)’; recorded at a time of immense challenge in Holly’s life due to ill health, it remains one of the most life-affirming of his releases. Notable contributors to Soulstream include Guy Chambers, Helen Terry, Stevie Lang, Andy Gray, Nick Ingman and Peter Oxendale.

Shall We Take A Trip: The Factory Recordings 1990-1991
•    Back in 1990, youthful Manchester band NORTHSIDE were signed amid much publicity by Tony Wilson to the legendary Factory Records, who were then riding high on the crest of the ‘Madchester’ boom with the likes of the Happy Mondays.

•    NORTHSIDE charted with their very first single, the double-A-sided ‘Shall We Take A Trip’ (with its notorious opening chant, "L… S… D”) and ‘Moody Places’. Follow-up ‘My Rising Star’ peaked at No. 32 in November 1990 and the band enjoyed a third consecutive Top 40 in June 1991 with ‘Take 5’. That same month, the band’s only album, CHICKEN RHYTHMS, reached No. 19.

•    Thereafter, NORTHSIDE demo’d material for a second album but Factory Records got into financial trouble and the band eventually split up.

•    Recently, however, the original line-up of NORTHSIDE have reunited for a tour: Warren "Dermo" Dermody (Vocals), Cliff Ogier (Bass), Timmy Walsh (Guitar) and Paul Walsh (Drums).

•    SHALL WE TAKE A TRIP boasts the band’s entire Factory output during that brief, heady period when the charts were awash with Baggy bands. Alongside a remastered edition of CHICKEN RHYTHMS are all their 7” and 12” mixes (some of them new to CD) plus a previously unreleased BBC Radio 5 session for Mark Radcliffe’s show Hit The North.

•    NORTHSIDE will be supporting this release with selected tour dates around the UK.

Dancing Marquis
FEATURING COLLABORATIONS WITH TONY VISCONTI, JARVIS COCKER, CARL BARAT and DANIELZ

•    New release ‘Dancing Marquis’ compiles together the 6 tracks released previously on two strictly limited edition vinyl EPs and adds another two brand new tracks and two exclusive and stunning remixes.

•    In 2013, Marc Almond realised the ambition of a lifetime when he attended a few recording sessions with the legendary record producer Tony Visconti, famous for his work with David Bowie, Hazel O'Connor, T-Rex, The Moody Blues and Morrissey. The stunning results of their unique collaboration are the two tracks 'Burn Bright' / 'The Dancing Marquis' that kick-off this CD.

•    Next to producer Tris Penna, Tony Visconti also lends a helping hand on string arrangements and mixing duties on two further tracks, ‘Tasmanian Tiger’, and ‘Death of a Dandy’, the latter inspired by the recent death of Soho’s tragic artist Sebastian Horsley and which also features special guest Danielz from T-Rex tribute ‘T.Rextasy’.

•    Carrying on in this collaborative vein, the CD also includes the talents of Martin McCarrick (Siouxsie And The Banshees, Therapy?) contributing  cello on the hearteningly buoyant 'Burn Bright' and strings on the title-track 'The Dancing Marquis', a song that Marc Almond wrote 'with Henry Paget 5th Marquess of Anglesey in mind'.

•    Jarvis Cocker brings to the mix an infectious electro-pop number he wrote especially for Marc, ‘Worship Me Now’, where he also features as a special guest on backing vocals and on the production duties with Jason Buckle (All Seeing I). Two additional dance remixes of ‘Worship Me Now’ are also included exclusively on this release. ‘Love Is Not On Trial’ sees Marc Almond continuing his collaboration with Carl Barat (Libertines), his co-star in the 2012 opera ‘Poppea’ at Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.

•    Produced again by Tris Penna, the song was written especially for Marc by Carl, who also features on guitar and vocals.

•    Completing this release are two further all new tracks, So What’s Tonight? and Idiot Dancing.

This product is released June 16 2014 and will not be dispatched before this date.

Ten Plagues (CD/DVD)
•    ‘Ten Plagues’ is an award winning one-man song cycle written especially for Marc Almond by celebrated playwright Mark Ravenhill (‘Shopping And F**king’, ‘Mother Clap’s Molly House’ and ‘The Cut’) with the accomplished musical dramatist Conor Mitchell.

•    ‘Ten Plagues’ is presented here in a special 2-disc package including an all new studio recording of the complete work as well as a DVD of the live stage show filmed at the historic Wilton’s Music Hall in East London.

•    ‘Ten Plagues’ tells the intense story of one man’s survival through the great plague of London in 1665 whilst drawing poetic parallels to more modern epidemics.

•    Marc Almond plays a character wracked by the loss of friends, lovers, family and sanity in a city in the midst of crisis and disease. He tries to hold on to his humanity despite mourning, grief, despair and the physical isolation that the plague necessitates.

•    ‘Ten Plagues’ in turn conjures up our reactions to more contemporary pandemics: for example, the fear, hysteria and prejudice about the first victims of AIDS, at the outset referred to as a ‘gay plague’; those who suffered were afraid, isolated and made to feel outcasts of society.

•    The piece was performed at the Traverse Theatre at The Edinburgh International Fringe Festival in 2011 and received the prestigious ‘Fringe First Award’.

•    Marc Almond stated in 2014; "if I could perform a piece such as Ten Plagues, I could do anything. Nothing would daunt me again." And so it proved, for ‘Ten Plagues’ was indeed another important turning point in Marc Almond’s diverse and acclaimed career. It gave him the confidence and credibility to tackle all new dramatic stage roles such as the part of Seneca in ‘Poppea’ (a reworking of the Coronation of Poppea by Monteverdi) performed in 2012 at Le Châtelet Opera House in Paris and, in 2014, to act in a collaboration with the award winning composer John Harle called ‘The Tyburn Tree’.
