The Gap Band VI
THE GAP BAND enjoyed huge success throughout the 70s and 80s with their unique sound and contribution to the Funk scene. Formed in 1967 in their hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma, brothers Charlie, Ronnie and Robert Wilson first went by the name Greenwood, Archer and Pine Street Band later shortening the name to THE GAP BAND in 1973. LA Producer, Lonnie Simmons, signed them to his label, Total Experience Records, setting in motion what would be the start of a long and prosperous relationship between THE GAP BAND and Simmons.

Notable hits include their top ten hit Shake, the breakthrough single from The Gap Band II, I Don't Believe You Want To Get Up And Dance (Oops!) and the number one R&B hit Early In The Morning taken from their 1982 #1 R&B album The Gap Band IV. 1985 brought the release of THE GAP BAND VI and with it the band soared back to the top of the R&B album chart with the chosen singles also enjoying impressive chart positions. The first single BEEP A FREAK, peaked at #2 R&B, their highest chart spot since Outstanding took the top spot on the R&B charts in 1982. The albums other two singles followed suit with I FOUND MY BABY hitting #8 in the R&B chart, and DISRESPECT earning a Top 20 R&B position.

Turn on Your Radio
Although they were formed in Bologna, Italy in 1979, there is a strong American character to much of CHANGE’s music. Their sound was strongly influenced by CHIC, while early singles featured vocals by LUTHER VANDROSS.  Vocals and additional recording for this album took place in New York City.

1985’s TURN ON YOUR RADIO was the sixth and final CHANGE album, and saw the return of founder JACQUES FRED PETRUS as producer. Single LET’S GO TOGETHER gave the group their final US R&B hit. The album also achieved sizeable international success, with LET’S GO TOGETHER reaching the UK Top 40 and OH WHAT A FEELING also charting in the UK. The album also reached the UK Top 40 and the US R&B chart.

BBR is very proud to present TURN ON YOUR RADIO in full and expanded form, complete with extensive liner notes that feature interviews along with added bonus tracks.
