entry
|
| Experimental band formed in Sheffield in 1974 and named after
a Dadaist group, Cabaret Voltaire were essentially vocalist and bassist
Stephen Millander and multi-instrumentalist Richard H. Kirk. Early live
performances were less conventionally musical than confrontational "events",
though in later days, convention did creep in when they discovered the hypnotic
joys of funk. |

| CRASS (WITH THE POISON GIRLS*) |
| Britain's best-known anarchist band, Crass were formed in 1978
by Steve Ignorant and Penny Rimbaud, and lived a commune-type life in an
Epping, Essex, farmhouse. Releases on their own Crass label had catalogue
numbers "counting down" to 1984 - "Year Zero" in the collective's scheme
of things, and the year in which, true to its ideals, it split up. |
