Switch: Expanded Edition - Switch

Switch: Expanded Edition
•    SWITCH are a Soul outfit originally based in Ohio who went on to have several hit R&B singles and albums from the late 1970's to the mid 1980's after signing with Motown subsidiary label Gordy in late 1977. Their first incarnation was as White Heat and they performed as backing band for Barry White before renaming themselves Hot-Ice. In 1978 the newly named Switch (due to the ease in which they could change vocalist or instruments on stage) released their debut album under that moniker.

•    SWITCH is a superb and exciting collection of mid and up-tempo grooves. Founding members Bobby DeBarge, Gregory Williams and Jody Sims take on the majority of the song writing and production with Jermaine Jackson also contributing his talents.

•    The first single released from SWITCH was the DeBarge penned ‘There'll Never Be,’ a slow burning R&B ballad with intricate harmonies and horn arrangements behind DeBarge's engaging falsetto, which peaked at #6 R&B and #36 Pop in the summer of 1978. Follow up single ‘I Wanna Be Closer’ (R&B #22), written and produced by Jermaine Jackson, is even more laid back, drenched in trademark harmonies with lead vocalists DeBarge and Philip Ingram complimenting each other perfectly. Stand out album tracks on SWITCH are the opener ‘I Wanna Be With You,’ a funky work out which stays tight on the groove, ‘We Like To Party... Come On,’ a full on call to the floor with crisp drums and a propulsive groove, the up-tempo soul shuffle ‘Fever’ and paranoid closer ‘Somebody's Watching You,’ a super fuelled percussion and horn led funk bomb.

•    BBR is very proud to present SWITCH, expertly remastered and complete with extensive liner notes and bonus tracks. Essential listening for all R&B, Soul, Funk and Disco fans.

Flying High- Expanded Edition
PRIME TIME was an electro Funk band who first formed in 1972 out of Los Angeles USA. The line up consisted of Jimmy Hamilton on keyboards, Frankie Babe Moore on drums, Dale Hightower on percussion and Maurice Hayes on the bass and lead vocals.

FLYING HIGH (now available on BBR!) was released in 1984 on Total Experience Records, who by this point were famous for providing a label home for the likes of the GAP Band, Yarbrough & Peoples, Pennye Ford and the legendary Billy Paul.

The suitably sparse opening track I OWE IT TO MYSELF climbed all the way to #21 on the US R&B chart late in 84 and was covered the following year by fellow Total Experience group, the GAP band on The GAP Band VII. Other notable tracks include the atmospheric Electro groove, GIVE IT TO THE BEAT along with the upbeat and slightly haunting jam, LOVE TALK. Both of these tracks went on to become firm Dance and Funk fan favourites throughout the 80’s and beyond. Jimmy Hamilton.

Nice And Slow: Expanded Edition
•    Locksley Alphonso Green, aka JESSE GREEN, was a Jamaican singer and multi-instrumentalist who spanned the genres from Reggae through to Disco during his well respected career. Growing up in the St. James parish of the famed island Green became enthralled with the music he heard from the various sound systems in the area, in particular the sound system headed by Count Barrett.

•    During the 60's Green sang vocals with Jamaican band The Pioneers and in the 70's toured internationally with the great Jimmy Cliff as his drummer before embarking on a solo career in 1976.

•    NICE AND SLOW was Green's debut solo album and was released on the EMI record label in 1976 to high acclaim, despite not garnering the commercial success the album deserved. As was the burgeoning trend at the time Green appropriated the fledgling Disco and Soul sounds of the mid 70's and scored a massive club hit with the album’s title track and opener which reached #1 on the U.S. Disco charts and #17 on the U.K. Pop charts. The second single from the album ‘Flip’ followed ‘Nice And Slow’ on to the dance floor peaking at #17 on the Disco chart in 1977. Both tracks have a sultry sweet soul sound on top of a solid bottom end groove.

•    Green's Jamaican roots are still very much in evidence on the album, especially on ‘Flip’ and album track ‘You Came, You Saw, You Conquered’ which both exemplify the singers spirited vocal style. Other highlights are the ballad ‘The Greatest Love’ and the superb ‘You Are The Star,’ a propulsive, jazz influenced groove.

•    BBR is proud to present NICE AND SLOW. This expanded and newly re-mastered edition comes complete with extensive liner notes and added bonus material.

•    This BBR re-master is essential listening for all Disco, Soul and R&B fans out there!

Get Up And Boogie: Expanded Edition
•    SILVER CONVENTION started life in Munich in 1974 as Silver Bird Convention when German song writing and producing partners Michael Kunzte and Sylvester Levay released the single ‘Save Me’ on Jupiter Records, enlisting three session singers to take care of the minimal vocal refrain on the track. With the "Bird” soon dropped from the acts name ‘Save Me’ became an international Disco hit heralding the start of continued success throughout the 70's.

•    GET UP AND BOOGIE was the group’s second album released in 1976 and capitalized on the success of their debut, which is also available on BBR. Simply titled "Silver Convention” for the US market, GET UP AND BOOGIE confirmed the group’s reputation for very catchy, accessible dance floor music that was at the forefront of the Euro-disco movement.

•    The first single and opening title track ‘Get Up And Boogie,’ well known as the groups most famous track, took them back to the top end of the charts, as well as being a big hit in the clubs, due to its easy disco style and simple lyrical refrain.
