Down To Love Town: Expanded Edition - Originals (The)

Down To Love Town: Expanded Edition
•    Formed in 1966, THE ORIGINALS worked as studio backup singers at Motown and featured on tracks such as ‘What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted’ by Jimmy Ruffin, ‘For Once In My Life’ by Stevie Wonder and Edwin Starr’s politically fuelled jam, ‘War.’ The original Originals were made up of four singers, the group's baritone and founder Walter Gaines, tenors Hank Dixon and C.P. Spencer (an original member of The Spinners) and also bass singer, Freddie Gorman, who was one of the writers of ‘Please Mr. Postman.’ In the late 60s, under the guidance and writing expertise of Al Green, The Originals scored two of their biggest hits early in their career with ‘Baby I'm For Real’ and the Gold certified, ‘The Bells.’

•    DOWN TO LOVE TOWN was the groups eighth album for Motown and was released in 1977. Produced by Michael Sutton and the Originals The album opens with intent on the horn and wah-wah led Disco/Soul stomper ‘Hurry Up And Wait’ before making way for the title track and only single from the album. ‘Down To Love Town’ (Disco #1/Pop #47) was originally included on their 1976 album Communique and became a true Disco classic with an incredible and impassioned lead vocal from Freddy Gorman's tenor/baritone, as he demands everybody join him in ‘Love Town,’ while the interplay between the guitar, strings and percussion keep you on the crest of the wave for the full six minutes of this 12” remix.  Other standouts include the smooth up-tempo groover ‘You Are A Blessing To Me’ and the passionate ballad ‘Sunrise.’

•    Following on from their reissue of The Originals Lamont Dozier produced 1975 album "California Sunset,” (CDBBR0044) BBR are proud to present DOWN TO LOVE TOWN, expertly remastered and complete with extensive liner notes and bonus tracks. Essential listening for all R&B, Soul, Funk and Disco fans.

Harvest for the World- Expanded Edition
Released on 24/10/11.

Originally formed as a gospel quartet in the 1950s, THE ISLEY BROTHERS went on to massive success in a decades-spanning career which has seen them produce music in genres from doowop to R&B, funk, soul and rock.

Reaching their third decade as a musical act in the 1970s, The Isley Brothers continued to reinvent themselves with line-up changes and new sounds ranging from 1973's hit rock anthem Summer Breeze to the socially-conscious soul of the title track from their 1976 album HARVEST FOR THE WORLD. HARVEST FOR THE WORLD was a landmark release for the Isley Brothers. While other Soul and Funk acts responded to the commercial pressure to record Disco, the band continued to absorb new influences while steadfastly progressing their sound.

First single WHO LOVES YOU BETTER became a Top 10 R&B smash hit and reached the US Pop charts. Second single HARVEST FOR THE WORLD followed suit, in addition to giving the group their first Top Ten UK hit of the 1970s, re-establishing THE ISLEY BROTHERS as an act with an international audience.

Utopia
Enchantment were formed in 1967 at Pershing High School in Detroit and secured their first recording contract two years later by winning first place in a talent contest sponsored by Detroit’s WCHB radio station.
In 1970 Enchantment joined the renowned talent agency Artists International and developed their song and stage craft through the early seventies performing throughout the Detroit area. This period culminated in the group recording the soundtrack for the movie ‘Deliver Us From Evil’ which was released on Polydor in 1975.
The following year Enchantment released their eponymous debut LP which kick started a great run of success and the release of further albums over the following few years which spawned the singles ‘Gloria’ (R&B #5) and ‘Sunshine’ (R&B #3), ‘It’s You That I Need’ (R&B #1), and ‘If You’re Ready (Here It Comes)’ (R&B #14, and an underground dance classic)" to name just a few.
Utopia was Enchantments sixth LP released in 1983 and saw the group take a departure from their horn and string led soulful, lush sound, instead putting the Fairlight synthesizer at the core of the album. Utopia contains both passionate ballads and full-on club tracks. ‘Don’t Fight The Feeling’ was the album’s R&B hit single with its relaxing percussive groove and compassionate vocal from Joe ‘Jobie’ Thomas. ‘I’m Dreaming’ sees Emanuel ‘E.J.’ Johnson lend his hair-raising tenor vocal to a gorgeous composition. ‘Somebody’s Loving You’ and ‘Get It While It’s Hot’ are both bone-fide dance-floor shakers with the former demonstrating the group’s aptitude for straight ahead rhythms and solid propulsive bass-lines.
BBR are very proud to present UTOPIA, fully re-mastered with extensive liner notes and bonus tracks.
UTOPIA is a must for all R&B, Soul and Post Disco/Dance fans out there!
