Between The Sea And The Sky
Imagine coming off the back of a defunct group, with no hits, but who have admittedly just released one of the best pop psych singles in the UK ever, and being thrown into George Martins Air Studios on a publishing/production deal and told there you are boys "make an album".

A slight license with the factual there but essentially this is what happened to Martin Briley and Brian Engel .In 1969, late of Mandrake Paddle Steamer and their classic 'Strange Walking Man', these late teens art students were given access to Air Studios and budgets for orchestras plus musicians to come up with hit singles. What they actually came up with was an almost concept album that exhibited all that had influenced them to that point, and let loose their humour and imagination. Sadly with the exception of one single ('Pale Green Vauxhall Driving Man') released under the name Prowler, a couple of years after the event, the recordings lay on the shelf, and are released for the first time now.

Briley played with GreAenslade and then as session guitarist with the Hunter Ronson band, Meatloaf and Ellen Foley. Three solo albums and a US top 40 hit 'Salt In My Tears' followed. He continues as a songwriter for international artists and backing vocalist.

United We Stand
In the beginning, Tony Hiller created The Brotherhood of Man. Formed in the recording studio and launched into a world at war over Vietnam, peace certainly won the day on vinyl in 1970 with the group‘s top ten single ‘United We Stand’ and accompanying album’s original sleeve notes announcing the groups arrival "with an eloquent and convincing plea to unite”.

The Brotherhood of Man would eventually win a very different war with a very different line-up in Europe at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1976. A different time, place, sound. RPM’s collection, concentrates on their old testament with chief peacemakers Johnny Goodison, Tony Burrows, Roger Greenaway, Hal Atkinson, Russell Stone and the brit girl sisterhood of Sue Glover and Sunny Leslie. Featuring the complete 1970 album now with corresponding non-album Asides and B-sides together with Sue and Sunny’s soulful Deram 45s from the same period. United We Stand unites the best session singers and songwriters of the late sixties and early seventies in total harmony with both their record buying public and the charts of the times.

Love Is The Message
MFSB (Mother Father Sister Brother) were the house band for Philadelpia International and worked closely with the production team of Gamble & Huff. They backed up groups such as Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, the O’Jays, the Stylistics, the Spinners, Wilson Picket and Billy Paul.
MFSB’s second album LOVE IS THE MESSAGE was released in 1974 and reached R&B #1 and Pop #4.
T.S.O.P. (THE SOUND OF PHILADELPHIA) is probably known to most as the theme from Soul Train. It was a massive hit, featuring the Three Degrees, reaching R&B #1, Pop #1 and UK #22. It sold over one million copies.
The Single Version of LOVE IS THE MESSAGE, also featuring The Three Degrees, reached R&B #42 and Pop #85. It has also been sampled by the likes of EPMD and LL Cool J.

Utopia
Enchantment were formed in 1967 at Pershing High School in Detroit and secured their first recording contract two years later by winning first place in a talent contest sponsored by Detroit’s WCHB radio station.
In 1970 Enchantment joined the renowned talent agency Artists International and developed their song and stage craft through the early seventies performing throughout the Detroit area. This period culminated in the group recording the soundtrack for the movie ‘Deliver Us From Evil’ which was released on Polydor in 1975.
The following year Enchantment released their eponymous debut LP which kick started a great run of success and the release of further albums over the following few years which spawned the singles ‘Gloria’ (R&B #5) and ‘Sunshine’ (R&B #3), ‘It’s You That I Need’ (R&B #1), and ‘If You’re Ready (Here It Comes)’ (R&B #14, and an underground dance classic)" to name just a few.
Utopia was Enchantments sixth LP released in 1983 and saw the group take a departure from their horn and string led soulful, lush sound, instead putting the Fairlight synthesizer at the core of the album. Utopia contains both passionate ballads and full-on club tracks. ‘Don’t Fight The Feeling’ was the album’s R&B hit single with its relaxing percussive groove and compassionate vocal from Joe ‘Jobie’ Thomas. ‘I’m Dreaming’ sees Emanuel ‘E.J.’ Johnson lend his hair-raising tenor vocal to a gorgeous composition. ‘Somebody’s Loving You’ and ‘Get It While It’s Hot’ are both bone-fide dance-floor shakers with the former demonstrating the group’s aptitude for straight ahead rhythms and solid propulsive bass-lines.
BBR are very proud to present UTOPIA, fully re-mastered with extensive liner notes and bonus tracks.
UTOPIA is a must for all R&B, Soul and Post Disco/Dance fans out there!

MFSB
M.F.S.B. (Mother Father Sister Brother) was the house band for Philadelphia International Records and worked very closely with the production team of Gamble & Huff. They backed up groups such as Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, The O’Jays, The Stylistics, The Spinners, Wilson Pickett and Billy Paul and are probably best known in their own right for providing the theme music for the legendary TV show Soul Train with ‘T.S.O.P. (The Sound Of Philadelphia)’. With the rise of the Philly soul sound at the beginning of the '70s, business was booming at GambleandHuff's Philadelphia International imprint and as a result M.F.S.B. were kept very busy in the studio providing backing for the aforementioned artists and leaving little time for the groups own recording sessions. It wasn’t until 1973 that the group had a chance to record material in its own name and released their self-titled debut album to high acclaim later that same year. MFSB features extended Funk-Soul-Jazz work-outs as on the seven-minute cover of Curtis Mayfield’s ‘Freddie's Dead’ that opens the set. The group also re-interpreted Sly Stone's ‘Family Affair’ to great effect while emphasising the flute as the driving force for their version of their label mates The O’Jays ‘Back Stabbers’ R&B chart topper from the previous year. The lush Disco/Pop sounds that informed the majority of the group’s later recordings, both in their own right and as the PIR house band, are featured on the other notable tracks on the album, in particular "Poinciana" which also features jazz-blues piano and guitar interjecting the soaring strings. ‘Something For Nothing’ (sampled by Groove Armada) also fits that description with a beautiful string led section that leads to an incredible motif on the horns which blasts through at just the right time, propelling the track forward. BBR is very proud to present MFSB, fully re-mastered and complete with extensive liner notes and bonus tracks. MFSB is a must for all R&B, Soul, Funk and Jazz fans out there!
