Don’t Let Go : Expanded Edition
Soul legend ISAAC HAYES released his third Polygram album DON’T LET GO in 1979, at the height of the Disco era. After his first two albums for the label had performed respectively, this time the title track gave him an out-and-out hit.

Originally a hit for ROY HAMILTON in 1957, DON’T LET GO returned Ike to both the R&B top 20 and the Pop top 20 in addition to reaching #3 on the Disco chart. A FEW MORE KISSES TO GO, another self-penned ballad, proved a modest R&B hit at the time but is still heard on Quiet Storm radio today.

In addition, the album features a Disco version (possibly the first ever) of the PEGGY LEE classic, FEVER. The album reached #9 R&B and #39 Pop and was certified Gold. This reissue features six bonus tracks including the 7” B-side YOU CAN’T HOLD YOUR WOMAN and 12” remixes of DON’T LET GO and A FEW MORE KISSES TO GO.

Eargasm
JOHNNIE TAYLOR was born in Crawfordsville Arkansas in 1934. He grew up in West Memphis where he performed in Gospel groups as a youngster. Johnnie would later take the place of Lou Rawls in the Gospel group, Highway QCs, a sextet that also helped launch the career of Sam Cooke, the Highway QCs’ founder, who Johnnie would go on to replace in The Soul Stirrers in 1957 as Cooke concentrated on his solo career.
A few years later and JOHNNIE TAYLOR was signed to Sam Cooke’s independent label, SAR Records where he recorded ‘Rome Wasn’t Built In A Day’ in 1962 and stayed there until the untimely death of Sam Cooke in 1964 when the label subsequently became defunct.
By 1966 JOHNNIE TAYLOR had moved to the legendary Stax Records where he was dubbed "The Philosopher Of Soul” and recorded with Stax house band, Booker T. & The MGs, releasing a string of chart hits and Gold records and established himself as a flagship artist for Stax alongside greats such as Isaac Hayes and The Staples Singers. After the demise of Stax JOHNNIE TAYLOR signed to Columbia Records where he would record EARGASM, the album that would create his best known hit- DISCO LADY.
Recorded in 1976, EARGASM’s first single, DISCO LADY, was a #1 hit in both the US Pop and R&B charts and even scored an impressive #25 in the UK. The follow up single, SOMEBODY’S GETTIN’ IT, was also well received scoring a top 40 position on the competitive US Pop chart and rose all the way to #5 on the R&B charts. Other notable tracks on the album include the B-Side to SOMEBODY’S GETTIN’ IT, PLEASE DON’T STOP (THAT SONG FROM PLAYING). A smooth, soul number with subtle additions of great, funk guitar licks and a lovely string section. Also YOU”RE THE BEST IN THE WORLD which was recently sampled on Kraak and Smaak 2008 hit – Squeeze Me.
BBR is very excited to present this wonderfully repackaged and beautifully re-mastered edition of JOHNNIE TAYLOR’s EARGASM complete with liner notes and added bonus content.
Released in deluxe Super Jewel cases, EARGASM is a must have for all Soul, Funk, Gospel, R&B and Disco fans out there!

Songs Of Love
Anita Ward hails from that hotbed of Southern Soul music Memphis, TN, and unsurprisingly started her association with music from an early age. Having honed her strong soprano voice singing Gospel in Memphis, Anita recorded with the Rust College A Capella Choir before going on to record with her own Gospel quartet. Anita then concentrated on a career as a teacher but her vocal talents could not be denied so before long her manager had turned her on to song-writer/producer Frederick Knight (who himself had a substantial R&B crossover hit in 1972 with ‘I’ve Been Lonely For So Long’ on the Stax imprint) and Knight was so impressed with Anita’s talents that the initial session progressed into a full albums worth of material.
The result of those sessions produced Anita’s debut LP SONGS OF LOVE (R&B #2 /Pop #8) and a deal with the legendary label T.K. Records was struck. The majority of the tracks on the album are mid-tempo grooves and stunning ballads which Anita owns with her warm soprano voice. Anita’s performance on this record strongly compliments the very assured song-writing and production from Knight with the stand out tracks being ‘Spoiled By Your Love’ and ‘There’s No Doubt About It’.
Despite having a very strong set of songs it was decided that the album was missing a final track so Knight re-worked a song he had written for a previous project and presented it to Anita. She was initially sceptical about the track but the song was recorded with Knight being one of the first to use synth-drums at that time. That track was the now legendary ‘Ring My Bell’, which became the albums only US single. ‘Ring My Bell’ was an instant hit and up-tempo disco classic which eclipsed the success of Donna Summer’s ‘Hot Stuff’ and Sister Sledges ‘We Are Family’ in the summer of 1979 by reaching the pinnacle across all of the main Billboard singles charts, securing an R&B, Pop and Disco #1 and selling over a million copies in the process, propelling Songs Of Love into the Billboard top ten. The song also topped charts internationally reaching #1 in New Zealand, Norway and the UK.
BBR is very proud to bring you SONGS OF LOVE, completely re-mastered and repackaged complete with extensive liner notes and extended bonus content.
SONGS OF LOVE is essential for all R&B, Soul and Disco fans out there!
