Up The Yellow Brick Road: Expanded Edition - Salsoul Orchestra (The)

Up The Yellow Brick Road: Expanded Edition
•    BBR is proud to bring you UP THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD, the sixth instalment of our Salsoul Orchestra reissues .

•    THE SALSOUL ORCHESTRA was the brainchild of once MFSB member and legendary vibraphonist, Vincent Montana Jr. Formed in 1974, THE SALSOUL ORCHESTRA, house band for the remarkable Salsoul Records, sometimes featured up to 50 members amongst its ranks including a number of former musicians from MFSB. THE SALSOUL ORCHESTRA began an eight-year recording period in 1975 releasing eleven sensational albums during that time featuring production input from, Stan Lucas, Patrick Adams, Bunny Sigler and Tom Moulton through the years.

•    Released in 1978 and recorded at the famous Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia, UP THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD was  produced  by the aforementioned Vincent Montana, Jr., and was mixed by the legendary Tom Moulton.

•    As the title suggests, UP THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD is inspired by the classic Broadway and film musicals with opening track ‘Ease On Down The Road’ taken from the Charlie Smalls penned "The Wiz,” a reinterpretation of The Wizard Of Oz, whose Broadway production won 7 Tony Awards. There are also two extended medleys of the famous songs from both West Side Story and Fiddler On The Roof as well as a cover of ‘Evergreen,’ the theme from A Star Is Born, which closes the album. Sandwiched in between is a great cover of the Beatles "Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band”. With Montana producing and arranging and Moulton mixing every track delivers the classic Salsoul sound and feel.

•    This newly remastered edition of UP THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD comes complete with extensive liner notes and bonus content making this BBR Remaster a must have for all Funk, Soul, Disco, Philly Soul and Broadway Musical fans out there!

Delusions
First Choice burst onto the scene in 1973 with their debut album Armed and Extremely Dangerous with the single of the same name reaching #11 in the R&B charts. They notched up further hits following this with the likes of ‘Smarty Pants’, ‘Newsy Neighbours’, ‘The Player’ and ‘Guilty’.
DELUSIONS was the groups fourth album and saw original member Joyce Jones leave the group to be replaced by Ursula Herring, joining original members Rochelle Fleming and Annette Guest to create what is often regarded as their best album.
DELUSIONS opens with the instantly loveable classic, ‘Dr Love’ (R&B #23/Pop #41), mixed by Tom Moulton. The album continues to offer a selection of lyrically rich dance tunes and luscious ballads that give Philadelphia native Fleming the perfect backing to demonstrate her talent as one of the most distinctive lead vocalists in soul/dance/pop music. DELUSIONS also boasts the Stevie Wonder penned track ‘Love Having You Around’.
‘Let No Man Put Asunder’ was an underground hit as an album track originally but became a huge dance hit when remixed in 1983 by Shep Pettibone, debuting on the US Dance Charts that year and has since been covered and sampled by many artists such as Mary J Blige, Mariah Carey, Kim Syms and Boogie Down Productions.
BBR is delighted to launch our extensive program of expanded CD re-masters from the legendary SALSOUL label. These in- demand titles have been out of print for almost two decades.
Released in a deluxe Super Jewel case with bonus tracks, BBR’s new expanded re-master of DELUSIONS is a must for all Soul, Disco and Funk fans out there!

Press: "Add in those aforementioned disco killers and what you end up with is clearly FC's best album." - Chris Wells, Echoes

Diamond Touch
Born in West Palm Beach, Florida in 1944, George McCrae started his musical career singing in church and later joining the glee club at school. He formed his own singing group called The Jivin’ Jets before joining the navy in 1963 and reformed the group on his return in 1967 with the addition of his wife Gwen before they later decided to work as a duo on Henry Stone’s Alston label before Gwen went solo and George worked on sessions until a chance moment had him record Rock Your Baby, written by Harry Wayne Casey and Richard Finch of KC and the Sunshine Band.
Following the huge success of ‘Rock Your Baby’, Grammy Award Nominee, GEORGE McCRAE, followed with the release of his self-titled second solo effort in 1975 (both available on BBR), the latter of which was very well received in the US and even more so in the UK.
The follow up album DIAMOND TOUCH, released in 1976, continues in the rich vein of his previous two LPs. Recorded in New York and produced by Gregg Diamond (hence the title) DIAMOND TOUCH spawned the single ‘Love In Motion’, a super-funky disco stomper with a down and dirty clavinet vamp that drives the track (courtesy of Robert Geiger), and an inspired sax solo from Joe Ferguson, which typifies the strength of Groove across the album, complementing Georges incredible and incomparable Soul vocal talents.
BBR is very proud to present this newly re-mastered and stunningly re-packaged expanded edition of DIAMOND TOUCH complete with extensive liner notes and additional bonus content.
This BBR re-master is a must have item for any Soul, Disco and R&B fans! Especially those who have picked up the BBR re-masters of "Rock Your Baby” and "George McCrae” and want to add to their McCrae collection.

Hold Your Horses
FIRST CHOICE, a female vocal trio hailing from Philadelphia, spent much of the 1970s signed to Philly Groove Records under the management of legendary Salsoul guitarist, songwriter and producer, Norman Harris. They released a string of hits throughout the mid to late 70s, the most prominent of which has to be their 1977 hit, Let No Man Put Asunder from the album Delusions which has almost 50 samples to its name, not including the countless samples of the 1983 Frankie Knuckles and Shep Pettibone remixes.
Following the huge success of Delusions, First Choice released their second offering on Gold Mind, Hold Your Horses. While Norman Harris produced and played on the album, the majority of production duties were left in the highly capable hands of Tom Moulton and Thor Baldursson. Musical talent features in the shape Philly Soul and MFSB legend Bobby Eli backed by string arrangement from the world-renowned Don Renaldo and the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra.
Notable singles include the title track which achieved a top 100 US R&B position while rocketing all the way to #5 on the US Dance chart as did the following single, Double Cross with both becoming hugely popular on dance floors around the globe, the latter also successfully gained a #60 spot on the US R&B charts during a highly competitive period of music. Other notable tracks include third single Love Thang also proving to be a popular dance floor jam.
BBR is delighted to bring you this newly remastered and fully expanded edition of First Choice - Hold Your Horses.
