Loleatta Holloway (Expanded Edition) - Loleatta Holloway

Loleatta Holloway (Expanded Edition)
Loleatta Holloway was a dance music legend. Her amazing vocal talents gained her the reputation as one of the premier vocalists of soul and dance music during the 70’s and 80’s. Holloway started her singing career with Queen of Gospel, Albertina Walker (and her Caravans) before striking out on her own. She released her first single ‘Rainbow ‘71’ on the fledgling Apache label before moving to Aware to record her first two albums prior to her work with Gold Mind/Salsoul.

LOLEATTA HOLLOWAY, released in 1979, was the singer's third album on Gold Mind/Salsoul Records and was the follow up to "Queen Of The Night” (CDBBR0258).  For this self-titled LP Holloway was teamed with producers Floyd Smith (who took on the majority of tracks) Bobby Womack and Bunny Sigler. Both Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia and the legendary Muscle Shoals Sound Studios in Alabama were used to achieve the sound they wanted, and they were able to appropriate the famous Muscle Shoals Horns into the bargain.

Opening track, also released a single, is ‘The Greatest Performance Of My Life,’ a typically full on Disco stormer with Holloway in full voice and getting in the party mood no matter what gets in the way. ‘That's What You Said’ is a smoother dance floor groove with the strings subtly leading the track while Holloway questions her lover, which gained a #30 slot on the US Disco chart. Another stand out track is ‘All About The Paper,’ an anthemic groove that was a massive favourite on the dance floors and is also represented here in an extended version.

BBR is proud to present LOLEATTA HOLLOWAY. This expanded and re-mastered edition comes complete with extensive liner notes and added bonus material and is a must have for all R&B, Soul, Funk, Disco and Dance fans out there!

Loleatta
Loleatta Holloway was a dance music legend. Her amazing vocal talents gained her the reputation as one of the premier vocalists of soul and dance. Loleatta unfortunately passed away in March 2011. Loleatta started singing with Queen of Gospel, Albertina Walker and the Caravans. She released her first single "Rainbow ‘71” on the fledgling Apache label before moving to Aware to record her first two albums prior to her work with Salsoul.
LOLEATTA was her first album for Gold Mind/Salsoul Records and was released in 1976. WORN OUT BROKEN HEART was released as the album’s first single and made #25 R&B. Its B-Side was DREAMIN’, an underground club hit when initially released. DREAMIN’ later became one of Salsoul’s key tracks and has often been remixed, most notably in 200 when it topped the Billboard Dance chart. HIT AND RUN was the album’s second single and another Salsoul classic. It was a #11 Disco hit when released.
LOLEATTA also features WE’RE GETTING STRONGER which was sampled by Whitney Houston on her Million Dollar Bill single as well as the Curtis Mayfield penned song WHAT NOW. Loleatta was responsible for providing the vocals for dance classics Love Sensation and Relight My Fire (Dan Hartman) as well as the UK #1 hit by Black Box, Ride On Time.
Released in deluxe Super Jewel cases, with bonus tracks LOLEATTA is a must for all Soul and Funk fans out there and a very welcome addition to our collection of Salsoul reissues!

Success
THE WEATHER GIRLS were Martha Wash and Izora Rhodes. The duo started out in the gospel group NOW (News of the World) before becoming backup singers with Sylvester in the late seventies. They were then named TWO TONS OF FUN and had a run of Disco hits on the Fantasy label.
The group then signed with Columbia Records and changed their name to The Weather Girls in 1982. The newly named duo’s first single ‘IT'S RAINING MEN’ was quickly a massive club hit in the US, topping the Dance/Disco chart in 1982. Their debut album SUCCESS featured the hit single and was a US chart hit. Despite only being a minor pop hit at home, ‘IT’S RAINING MEN’ became an international hit and eventually made number 2 in the UK in 1984. Since then it has become a massive anthem.
SUCCESS also featured the hit title track and ‘I’M GONNA WASH THAT MAN RIGHT OUTA MY HAIR’ which were also successful dance singles. The album demonstrated how strong the women's voices were and exploited their gospel roots.
Cherry Pop is very proud to present SUCCESS expertly remastered and complete with liner notes and bonus tracks. It is essential listening for all Hi-NRG, Disco and ‘80s Pop fans out there!

Love Sensation: Expanded Edition
·       Loleatta Holloway was a dance music legend. Her amazing vocal talents gained her the reputation as one of the premier vocalists of soul and dance music during the 70’s and 80’s. Holloway started her singing career with Queen of Gospel, Albertina Walker (and her Caravans) before striking out on her own. She released her first single "Rainbow ‘71” on the fledgling Apache label before moving to Aware to record her first two albums prior to her work with Gold Mind/Salsoul.
·       Holloway’s first album for Gold Mind was "Loleatta” (CDBBR0108) which spawned the R&B/Dance hits ‘Worn Out Broken Heart,’ ‘Hit And Run’ and ‘Dreamin’.’ She recorded two more albums for Gold Mind/Salsoul before contributing vocals to the disco classic ‘Re-light My Fire’ by Dan Hartman, who went on to write and produce the title track for her fourth and final album for Gold Mind/Salsoul, LOVE SENSATION.
·       LOVE SENSATION, released in 1980, provided Holloway with several disco hits. Not least was the title track and album opener which scorched  dance floors and propelled this heavily sampled classic to the #1 spot on the Billboard dance charts and rivals her recording of the timeless classic ‘Run Away,’ with The Salsoul Orchestra, as her most enduring performance.  ‘Dance What ‘Cha Wanna’ and ‘Short End Of The Stick’ (both penned by Bobby and Cecil Womack) were also strong dance floor favourites, the former of which would bring even the most rooted wallflower to express themselves with abandon. Holloway also shows off her incredible range and vocal nuance on the ballads ‘My Way’ (Bobby Womack) and the classic Jerry Butler and Otis Redding composition ‘I’ve Been Loving You Too Long.’
·       BBR is very proud to bring you LOVE SENSATION, completely remastered and complete with extensive liner notes and extended bonus content. Ideal for all R&B, Soul, Disco and Salsoul fans.

Big Girls Don’t Cry (Expanded Edition)

1985 saw the second album release by the duo under the name, The Weather Girls. BIG GIRLS DON’T CRY is another very well crafted pop/dance record for the duo, the recording of which was guided by producers Hank Medress and Jeff Kent.

BIG GIRLS DON’T CRY provided the dance floor hit ‘No One Could Ever Love You More Than Me,’ which peaked at #26 on the US dance charts and is featured here in extended form. ‘Well-A-Wiggy’ also charted making a respectable #76 on the US R&B charts and #107 Pop. Other notable tracks are the title track itself and an interesting cover of Canned Heat’s ‘Down On The Corner.’

Cherry Pop is very proud to present BIG GIRLS DON’T CRY, expertly re-mastered and complete with liner notes and bonus tracks. It is essential listening for all Hi-NRG, Disco and ‘80s Pop fans out there!
