Everybody's Dancin' - Expanded edition - Kool & The Gang

Everybody's Dancin' - Expanded edition
KOOL & THE GANG need no introduction. They were the top selling Soul group of the 70’s and 80’s having sold over 70 million albums worldwide and have received countless awards. Without them we would not have such great hits as ‘Summer Madness,’ ‘Get Down On It,’ ‘Celebration’ and who could forget that slammin’ funk monster that features so heavily in Quentin Tarantino’s cult flick - Pulp Fiction; ‘Jungle Boogie.’

Towards the end of 1978 would see Kool & The Gang release EVERYBODY'S DANCIN', their 12th studio album. EVERYBODY'S DANCIN' is one of the groups least talked about efforts as its release came in between the groups two most successful periods of early to mid-seventies funk and late seventies/early eighties Dance/Pop. However in order to get a full appreciation of such a pivotal and influential group EVERYBODY'S DANCIN' should not be overlooked. This album exists perfectly between the realms of hard hitting funk and sophisticated soulful pop, pointing the way to the groups unprecedented worldwide success's over the following years.

The opening and title track, ‘Everybody's Dancin',’ is an eight minute plus dance floor masterpiece that keeps giving you more as the string sections come in over an array of incredible horn hooks and ecstatic vocals. It was the only single to chart from the album reaching #65 R&B in late '78. The other official single from this set is ‘I Like Music,’ a scorching mid tempo stomp declaring something we all already knew about this most dedicated of groups.

‘Big Chief Funkum,’ sits alongside "Open Sesame” from the album of the same name (CDBBR0045) as it provides a comical stereotype of Native Americans over a tough groove at a time when celebration of Native American culture was to the fore in the U.S.A. Both ‘You Deserve A Break Today’ and ‘Dancin’ Shoes’ (surely a nod to Miami's greatest hit makers of the time, K.C and the Sunshine Band) are very tight, satisfying slices of funk, while ‘Stay A While’ is the best ballad on the album. · BBR is proud to present EVERYBODY'S DANCIN'. This expanded and re-mastered edition comes complete with extensive liner notes and added bonus material. This BBR remaster is a must have for all R&B, Soul, Funk, Disco and Pop fans out there!

Prog Is Not A Four Letter Word
Whoever came up with the over-pretentious, collective term "Progressive Rock" couldn’t have been less forward thinking. Prog rock in its truest form was not a ‘restrictive’ genre - it was a movement that unified ALL genres.

Forget such flamboyant cover stars such as Genesis, Yes and ELP, what of the truly progressive international rock musicians who started their own hybrid-hurricanes outside the rectangular iris of Prog's media storm? What about the unintentionally progressive musicians from the far reaches of the globe who were forced to create their own brand of psychedelic rock in a country shielded from the influence of the western world? And why don’t we spare a thought (and some needle time), for the culturally progressive crusaders carrying the rock-music flag in the face of political adversity risking social ostrasization or even death?

Even though most of the 15 tracks on this compilation were recorded over 30 years ago they still, individually embody a wide range of challenging progressive musical ideas which are as relevant today as they were when the vinyl first came off the press in each of their scattered countries of origin.

"Prog Is Not A Four Letter Word" is the follow-up to ANDY VOTEL (TWISTED NERVE)’s critically acclaimed "Folk Is Not A Four Letter Word" (CDDELAY01), which caused quite a stir earlier this year.

The majority of these tracks have never before been on CD, many appear here for the first time away from their highly sought after, and stupendously rare, original releases.

Blue & Lonesome
The classic 1963 album that took Jones from uptempo country star to the netherworld of aching melancholy. 12 sparkling diamonds from his brief spell at Mercury Records. The title alone sums up the great man and his interpretations of Don Williams' ‘Oh Lonesome Me' and a couple of Hank Williams' broodier ballads make this an absolute must for yearning lovelorn music fans anywhere. Enhanced with half a dozen cuts from his earliest ‘50s 78 recordings, the mood is supremely downbeat even when the tempo lifts.

George Jones became widely acclaimed as the king of heartbreak country and ‘Blue And Lonesome' positively ladles on the angst.

-Geoff Barton / Classic Rock May 2012

Oceans Of Time
UK five-piece rock band TOUCHSTONE are excited to reveal they have signed an exclusive deal with Hear No Evil Recordings/Cherry Red Records for their much-anticipated 4th studio album ‘Oceans Of Time’, which is due to be released on 7th October 2013.

The release of the new album will be supported by a 6-date UK tour in October, where they will be joined by co-headliners Von Hertzen Brothers from Finland.

The band comment: "TOUCHSTONE are delighted to have signed to Hear No Evil Recordings for the release of our new album, Oceans Of Time. We are very much looking forward to working alongside Hugh Gilmour, the label manager, and to being a part of the bigger Cherry Red Records stable.”

‘Oceans Of Time’ features 11 tracks recorded and produced at Outhouse Studios by renowned producer John Mitchell (You Me At Six, Lower Than Atlantis, Funeral For A Friend), and is the successor to Touchstone’s previous  albums: The City Sleeps (2011), Wintercoast (2009) and Discordant Dreams (2007).

On this eagerly awaited new album, the band continue their "Wintercoast” story with the dynamic, moving epic title track ‘Oceans Of Time’; the sequel to the title tracks of Wintercoast and The City Sleeps. Another familiar theme comes from ‘Shadow’s End’, the final part of the Shadow trilogy, which started with the track ‘Shadow’, from Discordant Dreams.

Fans will enjoy a more guitar-orientated sound from Oceans Of Time than previous albums due to the nature of the writing process. All the music is written by Touchstone, with lyrics by lead vocalist Kim "Elkie” Seviour, and keys man Robert Cottingham, whilst guitarist Adam Hodgson again designed the cover artwork.

UK Tour Dates (with Von Hertzen Brothers)

Oct 19 The Duchess, York
Oct 20 The Globe, Cardiff
Oct 25 The Garage, London
Oct 26 Eric’s Live, Liverpool
