Feelin’ Good At The Cadillac Club - Billy Paul

Feelin’ Good At The Cadillac Club
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Grammy Award winner BILLY PAUL began singing at the age of 12 and sometimes performed on local radio shows. Drawing inspiration from his family's collection of 78's, Paul would incorporate Jazz, R&B and Pop into his style, resulting in a unique sound that became synonymous with Philadelphia International Records throughout the 1970's. Billy became well known on his local circuit, singing in clubs and later around college campuses all over the country, which later led to him performing live with some of the biggest names in black music of the 60's and 70's including Dinah Washington, Miles Davis, Nina Simone and Roberta Flack to name a few. Having signed to the Gamble label Paul released his first LP FEELIN' GOOD AT THE CADILLAC CLUB in 1968, which started a long standing and very successful relationship with the formidable song writing and production duo Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. FEELIN' GOOD... is an exciting studio- "live club date” recording combination and was produced entirely by the man himself.
Paul sings every one of these songs with honesty and commitment that matches the excitement and intensity he would bring out on to the stage as a seasoned live performer and fully introduced him to the music world as the complete vocal package. On the killer up-tempo jazz tracks such as ‘Billy Boy’ and ‘Bluesette’ (the latter being the only single from the LP) Paul exercises his vocal power and subtlety and employs his trademark innovative phrasing.Other standout performances on what is a set of predominantly contemporary standards are ‘Clear Day,’ ‘That's Life,’ ‘Feelin’ Good’ and the closer "Somewhere.” After Paul moved to, and gained immediate success with Gamble and Huff's Philadelphia International label in the early 70's, FEELIN' GOOD... was re-packaged and re-released in 1973. You will find both LP sleeve covers represented in this package.

BBR is very proud to bring you it's first release from the 1960's, FEELIN' GOOD AT THE CADILLAC CLUB, completely re-mastered and re-packaged complete with extensive liner notes. This BBR re-master is a must have for all R&B, Jazz and Philly Soul fans out there!

Prog Is Not A Four Letter Word
Whoever came up with the over-pretentious, collective term "Progressive Rock" couldn’t have been less forward thinking. Prog rock in its truest form was not a ‘restrictive’ genre - it was a movement that unified ALL genres.

Forget such flamboyant cover stars such as Genesis, Yes and ELP, what of the truly progressive international rock musicians who started their own hybrid-hurricanes outside the rectangular iris of Prog's media storm? What about the unintentionally progressive musicians from the far reaches of the globe who were forced to create their own brand of psychedelic rock in a country shielded from the influence of the western world? And why don’t we spare a thought (and some needle time), for the culturally progressive crusaders carrying the rock-music flag in the face of political adversity risking social ostrasization or even death?

Even though most of the 15 tracks on this compilation were recorded over 30 years ago they still, individually embody a wide range of challenging progressive musical ideas which are as relevant today as they were when the vinyl first came off the press in each of their scattered countries of origin.

"Prog Is Not A Four Letter Word" is the follow-up to ANDY VOTEL (TWISTED NERVE)’s critically acclaimed "Folk Is Not A Four Letter Word" (CDDELAY01), which caused quite a stir earlier this year.

The majority of these tracks have never before been on CD, many appear here for the first time away from their highly sought after, and stupendously rare, original releases.

Blue & Lonesome
The classic 1963 album that took Jones from uptempo country star to the netherworld of aching melancholy. 12 sparkling diamonds from his brief spell at Mercury Records. The title alone sums up the great man and his interpretations of Don Williams' ‘Oh Lonesome Me' and a couple of Hank Williams' broodier ballads make this an absolute must for yearning lovelorn music fans anywhere. Enhanced with half a dozen cuts from his earliest ‘50s 78 recordings, the mood is supremely downbeat even when the tempo lifts.

George Jones became widely acclaimed as the king of heartbreak country and ‘Blue And Lonesome' positively ladles on the angst.

"This collection of music of the past (no music of the future; that would be impossible sci-fi) showcases Miles as a top talent who simply needed a firm musical direction.”

-Geoff Barton / Classic Rock May 2012

"With all four singer/songwriter/guitarist John Miles’ Decca albums already released by sister label Lemon, the 7T’s imprint releases one which is arguably stronger than the others, as it rounds up the 17 songs Miles released as singles A- and B-sides during his Decca tenure.”
