Sons of the Gods - Ripple

Sons of the Gods
RIPPLE were an interracial R&B/Funk/Soul group that came together in Michigan, Illinois in the early 1970’s. With their radio friendly funky sound, which could evoke Kool & The Gang and Stevie Wonder, Ripple first charted in 1973 while signed to GRC Records with the groove classic "I Don’t Know What It Is, But It Sure Is Funky” which peaked at #11 R&B and #67 Pop and was featured on their eponymous debut album released in the same year.

After hitting the upper reaches of the R&B singles chart throughout the middle of the 1970’s Ripple moved from GRC Records to the increasingly influential Salsoul Record label to record and release their second album, SONS OF THE GODS in 1977. By this time the group had developed their sound and were just as adept at laying down their trademark Funky Soulful grooves as they were introducing more Pop and Jazz elements to their repertoire.

With Salsoul Records behind them Ripple were able to create a set of very strong dance grooves that more than stand up to the releases of many of their contemporaries of the time. The only single to be released from SONS OF THE GODS was the aptly titled ‘The Beat Goes On And On,’ a solid funky groove that continued the groups success on the Billboard R&B singles chart peaking at #91 in March of 1978. SONS OF THE GODS employs every element of the group to great effect with slick Afro/Latin percussion and smooth interplay between the horns, keyboards and guitar parts while lead singer Keith Samuels holds the R&B/Funk/Soul/Jazz/Disco melting pot together with his assured soulful vocals.

Other very notable grooves on this album are the opener ‘Call Me Traveling Man’ and the funky closer ‘Do What You Gotta Do.’
BBR is very proud to present SONS OF THE GODS, expertly re-mastered and complete with extensive liner notes and bonus track. SONS OF THE GODS is absolutely essential listening for all R&B, Soul, Jazz and Pop fans out there!

Gun
Race With The Devil, reached the UK Top Ten in December 1968, it catapulted power trio the Gun from the bowels of the London underground club circuit to the forefront of the British pop scene. Released a couple of months later, the group s self-titled debut album boasted an equally dazzling, idiosyncratic combination of hard rock ferocity and striking orchestral arrangements, and it can now be seen as a major stepping stone in the gradual metamorphosis of late 60s psychedelic rock into what would become known as heavy metal. This newly re-mastered reissue features contemporaneous single releases, rare photos and fresh quotes from founder member Paul Gurvitz.

California Sunset- Expanded Edition
BBR delves deep into the vaults of Motown to bring you an exclusive, never before on CD, reissue of California Sunset by The Originals. This highly sought after album is considered one of THE ultimate underground Motown classics by Soul fans everywhere.

Formed in 1966, THE ORIGINALS worked as studio backup singers and featured on tracks like What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted by Jimmy Ruffin, For Once In My Life by Stevie Wonder and Edwin Starr’s politically fuelled jam, War. The group was made up of four singers, the group's baritone and founder Walter Gaines, tenors Hank Dixon and C.P. Spencer, an original member of Spinners and also bass singer, Freddie Gorman, who was one of the writers of Please Mr. Postman.

By 1970 Spencer had gone solo and was replaced by Ty Hunter who had been the lead singer with Scherrrie Payne in the R&B group, The Glass House.

In the late 60s, under the guidance and writing expertise of Al Green, The Originals scored two of their biggest hits early in their career with Baby I'm For Real and the Gold certified, The Bells. Produced by one of Motown’s legendary producers, Lamont Dozier, California Sunset contains smooth instrumentation and warm vocals befitting of the album title. Tracks like the R&B hit, Good Lovin Is Just A Dime Away and Sweet Rhapsody along with the title track all help secure this as one of the smoothest Soul albums to ever come out of Motor City.

Face to Face : Expanded Edition
Released 16th January 2012 Few artists transitioned from the Disco era as successfully as Evelyn "Champagne” King. Tagged as a "Disco Diva” having set dance floors ablaze with her Disco smash hit ‘Shame’, Evelyn was then able to transition into being one of the most successful R&B acts of the 1980s.

She achieved this via her hit 1981 album I’m In Love with the single of the same name becoming a US R&B #1 and reaching #27 in the UK Charts. This success was quickly followed up with the 1982 album Get Loose which became a US R&B #1 album as well as being her first UK Top Forty album, The album also spawned the mega-hit Love Come Down.

The 1983 album Face To Face saw Evelyn being teamed with producers Leon Sylvers (fresh from his chart-topping work with Shalamar) and Prince Collaborator Andre Cymone to develop her transition into the increasingly electronic sounds of the 80s. The album also produced three R&B/Dance hit singles - "Action”, "Shake Down” and "Teenager” – which all gained top 30 spots in the US R&B Chart and all appear in remix format on this BBR remaster.

Delegation II
Len Coley and Roddy Harris formed DELEGATION in Birmingham, during the mid 70’s; later adding Jamaican born Ricky Bailey whose voice was to give them added flair on lead, helping them to compete in the competitive UK Soul Market.
The Group worked with one of the UK’s most prolific hit makers of the 70’s and 80’s, Ken Gold, responsible for masterminding The Real Thing as well as writing and producing for artists such as The Nolans, Liquid Gold and Billy Ocean who secured a deal with State Records after which the group released a few UK singles with moderate success.
However, when Oh Honey hit the US charts in 1979 it scored an incredibly impressive top 50 US Pop chart position and smoothly grooved all the way to #6 in the US R&B charts helping the album enter the top 100 on the Billboard Hot 200 and came to rest easily at #8 on the US R&B album chart.
DELEGATION later moved to Ariola Records while changing their line-up with Len Coley being replaced with Bruce Dunbar, a Broadway Musical singer who starred in the musical "Hair" before joining the band, bringing with him his captivating falsetto, so well suited to DELEGATION’s smooth funky sound. Once they had drafted in the arranging talents of keyboard virtuoso, Lynton Naismith, DELEGATION went to work on 'Eau De Vie' which would go on to become their highest selling album achieving a Gold Record status in 1980.
1981 would see the release of DELEGATION II, which created such hits as the single I WANTCHA BACK, a low tempo, funky bass line driven Disco single. IN THE NIGHT stepped up the heat, again driven by the incredible talents of Jon Plotel on bass and the Lynton Naiff arranged string section. SINGING closed out the single releases, a big production number with some great performances by Jon Plotel, Lynton Naiff, Robert J. Ahwai on guitar and Kofi Aivor on percussion and of course the incredible horn section that feature throughout the album.
BBR is very proud to bring you DELEGATION II, completely re-mastered and repackaged complete with liner notes and extended bonus content.
Released in deluxe Super Jewel cases, DELEGATION II is a must have or all Soul and Funk and Jazz fans out there!
