A Little Love - Aurra

A Little Love
BBR delves deeper into the vaults of Salsoul Records to bring you AURRA – A LITTLE LOVE!
AURRA began as a spinoff from the R&B Funk group Slave in 1980 and featured members Curt Jones, Staleana Young, Charles Carter and Budd Hankerson. AURRA recorded three albums for Salsoul during the 80s and tasted chart success with their first offering, Send Your Love when "Are You Single” reached #16 on the R&B charts.
A LITTLE LOVE features Stephen "The Fearless Leader” Washington, a talented multi-instrumentalist and member of Slave, who would co-write and play on the entire album while tending to production duties with the assistance of Tom Lockett, helping AURRA reach their biggest success of the 80s when ‘Make Up Your Mind’ climbed all the way to #6 on the R&B Singles chart while simultaneously achieving an impressive #71 on the US Pop charts.
The rapport between Curt Jones and Starleena Young is brilliantly showcased on A LITTLE LOVE on tracks such as the love funk jam ‘Patience’ but it’s the heart-warming ‘It’s You’, a sweet duet about a couples first meeting and falling in love with one another which really gives us an insight into the Jones and Young dynamic.
BBR is very proud to present this fully expanded and lovingly remastered edition of AURRA – A LITTLE LOVE.
Complete with extensive liner notes with interviews and added bonus content, this BBR Remaster is a must have for all Soul, Funk, R&B and Disco fans out there!

Gun
Race With The Devil, reached the UK Top Ten in December 1968, it catapulted power trio the Gun from the bowels of the London underground club circuit to the forefront of the British pop scene. Released a couple of months later, the group s self-titled debut album boasted an equally dazzling, idiosyncratic combination of hard rock ferocity and striking orchestral arrangements, and it can now be seen as a major stepping stone in the gradual metamorphosis of late 60s psychedelic rock into what would become known as heavy metal. This newly re-mastered reissue features contemporaneous single releases, rare photos and fresh quotes from founder member Paul Gurvitz.

Gravity
James Brown, also known as the Godfather of Soul and the Hardest Working Man in Show Business, had a career that would put any others in the business to shame.  He worked tirelessly until his unfortunate demise on Christmas day in 2006 writing, recording and performing some of Soul and Funks true classics. He notched up an impressive seventeen R&B #1’s including It’s A Man’s Man’s World, I Got You (I Feel Good), Make It Funky and Super Bad.

GRAVITY was produced by Dan Hartman (Relight My Fire, Instant Replay, I Dream About You) in 1986 due to the phenomenal success of LIVING IN AMERICA from the soundtrack to Rocky VI.  This single gained the #4 spot in the Pop chart, #10 in the R&B and #5 in the UK.

GRAVITY, the follow up single reached #26 in the R&B chart as well as #93 in the Pop chart.  Also featured on this album is the James Brown classic TURN ME LOOSE, I’M DR. FEELGOOD which is a sure fire dancefloor filler.

HOW DO YOU STOP was the third single release and returned James to the R&B top 10.  It is a minor classic in Brown’s catalogue and was later covered by none other than Joni Mitchell on her 1994 album Turbulent Indigo.

The O’Jays In Philadelphia
THE O'JAYS were formed by five high school friends in 1958 who after seeing Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers perform, were inspired to start a vocal group. They spent time on various labels and released some fairly successful singles on Imperial Records working with H.B. Barnum and also Gamble & Huff, who were working as a production team for Neptune Records. THE O’JAYS IN PHILADELPHIA was the group’s only studio album to be released on Neptune Records in 1970.The title refers to the beginning of their association with Philly's R&B scene and producers/songwriters Kenny Gamble&Leon Huff. This album heralded a long run of success and one of the most fruitful partnerships in the history of soul music with The O’Jays becoming the biggest act on Gamble and Huff’s legendary Philadelphia International Records imprint throughout the 70’s when the label released the "Back Stabbers” album in 1972 (CDBBR0051). THE O’JAYS IN PHILADELPHIA starts with the amazing ‘One Night Affair’. The song was released as a single in the summer of ’69 reached #15 R&B. The track has an up-tempo propulsive groove backed up with lush strings and horns to compliment the gritty gospel influenced vocal from Eddie Levert as he pleads for a night of passion with no strings attached. The second single was ‘Branded Bad’ (R&B #41), a quintessential Gamble/Huff production with some great instrumentation including a crunching organ motif towards the end. ‘Deeper (In Love With You)’ (R&B #21), the third single, is a swinging soul track in the 60’s style with a demanding ‘walking’ bass line and a very danceable track. Single number four, ‘Looky Looky (Look At Me Girl)’ (R&B #17) is another energetic up-tempo soul track with the group pleading for attention from the fairer sex. Other standout tracks are the stunning ballad ‘Let Me In To Your World’ and the mid-tempo groovers ‘You’re The Best Thing Since Candy’ and ‘I Should Be Your Lover’. BBR is very proud to present THE O’JAYS IN PHILADELPHIA, expertly re-mastered and complete with extensive liner notes and the album’s original art work on CD for the first time. THE O’JAYS IN PHILADELPHIA is absolutely essential listening for all R&B and Soul fans, especially those who champion the Philly Sound!

Intuition
After a seven-year, seven-album tenure with Arista Records (from 1978-1985) – which started with the release of her GRP album Angie (reissued by SoulMusic Records in 2012, SMCR-5039) - renowned singer / songwriter Angela Bofill took a three-year hiatus from recording, moving to Northern California as a then-newly wed with a new born daughter. In 1988, she was eager to step back into the studio: the result was INTUITION, her sole album for Capitol Records.
The Bronx, New York-born artist worked with two primary producers for the project, musician and recording artist in his own right Norman Connors and Vincent Brantley, fresh from hits with such ’80s hitmakers as New Edition and Klymaxx. Bofill also produced two tracks herself, the self-penned composition ‘Love Overtime’ and ‘Fragile, Handle With Care,’ written by Robbie Nevil and Siedah Garrett.
The sessions with Connors included a remake of the 1978 Gino Vanelli hit ‘I Just Wanna Stop’ which became the album’s key single (reaching No. 11 on the U.S. R&B charts) as well as ‘For You And I,’ a standout ballad duet with Peabo Bryson. Highlights among Brantley’s tracks were ‘Love Is In Your Eyes’ (a personal Bofill favourite) and ‘Everlasting Love.’
This expanded edition of INTUITION (long out of print) includes two bonus track single edits and notes by renowned US writer Darnell Meyers-Johnson with quotes from Angela herself, Vincent Brantley, arranger Benjamin Wright and former Capitol executive Wayne Edwards.
