Nice ‘N’ Naasty
THE SALSOUL ORCHESTRA was the brainchild of once MFSB member and legendary vibraphonist, Vince Montana Jr.
Formed in 1974 THE SALSOUL ORCHESTRA, house band for the remarkable Salsoul Records, sometimes featured up to 50 members amongst its ranks including a number of former musicians from MFSB of the Gamble & Huff fronted Philadelphia International Records and fused elements of Funk, Latin, Disco and Philly Soul into their compositions.
Conducted by Montana, THE SALSOUL ORCHESTRA began an eight-year recording period in 1975 releasing eleven sensational albums during that time featuring production input from Tom Moulton, Stan Lucas, Patrick Adams and Bunny Sigler through the years.
BBR is proud to bring you the second instalment of our Salsoul Orchestra reissues – The Salsoul Orchestra - Nice & Naasty. Recorded at the famous Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia with production and much of writing being tended to by Vince Montana Jr., Nice & Naasty also features some great musicianship from greats like Bobby Eli, Ron Kersey, Norman Harris and Ron Baker.
Standout tracks include the title single, which achieved a highly impressive #61 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and Ritzy Mambo, which also achieved a spot on the highly coveted singles chart. The album itself accomplished a solid #30 position on the US Pop Album chart.
This newly remastered, fully expanded edition comes packaged complete with extensive liner notes and added bonus content making this BBR Remaster a must have for all Funk, Soul, Disco, R&B and Philly Soul fans out there!

The Magic Garden
The Arbors are the last great 'lost' vocal harmony act of the 1960s. Formed by two sets of brothers at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1965 (and you thought the MC5 were the first cool Ann Arbor act!), the quartet were signed to Columbia's Date imprint and scored their first hit with "A Symphony For Susan" in 1966. Indeed, it's the symphonic nature of many of their recordings that singled The Arbors out as being that little bit different from their 'cooler' peers. Then in 1969 the group semi-re-invented themselves with their third LP which spawned further hits in their mind-blowing, DJ-baiting versions of The Box Tops' "The Letter" and Blood, Sweat & Tears' "I Can't Quit Her". The album also featured stunning readings of Beatles, Dylan, Doors and Simon & Garfunkel tunes and should now be regarded as a bona fide soft pop classic. Shifting once again, in the early '70s the band moved away from pop and into the lucrative world of advertising jingles where they forged a 30-odd year career cutting ads for the likes of McDonalds, Texaco, Green Giant and United Airlines. Rev-Ola is proud to present Symphonies For Susan, the first definitive retrospective of this largely overlooked and hugely talented band, featuring tracks from all three of their albums, many of which appear on CD for the first time. Haven For Sale / St. Elmo’s Fire
Released on 18/01/10. Haven enjoyed success with John Barry on the soundtracks to 60’s film classics including The Knack , Goldfinger , From Russia With Love and critical acclaim for his performances and recordings with jazz drumming supremo Tony Crombie. He further scored a surprise single hit with his recording of Image.

In 1969 and 1971 Haven recorded two albums for CBS , a mix of originals by Haven with his arrangements of covers. All benefiting from the distinctive Haven Lowrey Heritage keyboard sounds which he had been developing throughout the 60’s. Haven For Sale features jazz trumpeter Maynard Ferguson and direction from Keith Mansfield. St. Elmo’s Fire saw Haven experiment more with the keyboards and its effects, also producing and including more originals than before.

Everything's Alright

The complete recordings of this well respected Merseybeat act during their career (1963-1967). Best known on record for their own song ‘Everything’s Alright’, in part through their own recording being regarded as one of the classic ‘Mersey Sound’ tracks ever, as well as it making the top 10, and later through David Bowie covering it on PIN UPS. Two other tracks also made the charts, Why Not Tonight and Seven Daffodils, from a collection of seven singles and one EP recorded for Decca. The complete recordings are bookended by their very first recording and their last. The first made as The Nomads was included on the Oriole LP This Is Merseybeat in 1963 , and the last was the previously un-reissued Liberty single as Stu James & The Mojos in 1967. This package comes complete with fresh quotes from the Mojos guitarist Nicky Crouch, who also supplied the archive photos, and lead writer and singer Stu James aka Stuart Slater.
