Winners - Kleeer

Winners
Kleeer were formed in 1972 in New York and went through several names before signing to Atlantic Records as Kleeer in 1979. The group had previously backed up Joe Tex and the Sex-O-Lettes for touring duties in the early seventies and also took on the moniker of Universal Robot Band after production legends of the era Patrick Adams and Greg Carmichael had released a purely studio based single under that name and needed a group to back up the project. However by 1978 the group had a change of heart as they no longer wanted to record and tour as the Universal Robot Band and instead be in charge of their own destiny which culminated in the deal with Atlantic and a final change of name.
Kleeer had a funky sound with a dance floor edge and were able to create success on both sides of the Atlantic in 1979 with solid grooves like ‘Keep Your Body Workin’’ (US R&B #60) and ‘Tonight’s The Night (Good Time)’ (US R&B #33) both taken from their debut album "I Love To Dance”.
WINNERS was the second album by Kleeer, also released in 1979, and looked to follow up quickly on the success of its predecessor. The title track, and opener on the album, was the first single to be released in early 1980 and trumped their previous success by peaking at #23 on the US R&B charts. ‘Winners’, continues with the dance floor sound of the group’s previous singles and put them firmly on the Disco map. ‘I Still Love You’ and ‘Your Way’ immediately drop the tempo down and sound like quiet storm-esque jams before the remainder of the album picks up the pace again with mid-tempo dancers like ‘Rollin’ On’ and ‘Hunger For Your Love’. The album concludes with the second single ‘Open Your Mind’ which was also an R&B hit in the summer of 1980.
BBR is very proud to present WINNERS, fully re-mastered with extensive artwork and liner notes as well as an extra bonus track.
WINNERS is a must have for all R&B, Funk and Disco fans out there!

Ladies Night: Expanded Edition

· KOOL & THE GANG need no introduction. They were the top selling Soul group of the 70’s and 80’s having sold over 70 million albums worldwide and have received countless awards. Without them we would not have such great hits as "Summer Madness,” "Get Down On It,” "Celebration” and who could forget that slammin’ funk monster that features so heavily in Quentin Tarantino’s cult flick - Pulp Fiction; "Jungle Boogie.”

· 1979 would see Kool & The Gang release LADIES NIGHT, their 13th studio album. LADIES NIGHT was a departure from the group’s edgier Funk sound that had brought them plenty of success throughout the 1970’s. The decision was made to bring in the Grammy Award winning Brazilian musician Eumir Deodato as producer, which heralded a smoother and more pop focused era for Kool & The Gang and strengthened their grip on both the R&B and Pop charts on both sides of the Atlantic.

· LADIES NIGHT, with its combination of pure, straight ahead dance cuts and down tempo soul pop helped Kool & The Gang strike a new chord with the music buying public and quickly hit the top of the U.S. R&B album chart as a result. The album also easily crossed over and peaked at #13 on the Pop chart.

· Singles featured on LADIES NIGHT include the title track, which rocketed to #1 on the U.S. R&B chart while gaining top ten spots on both the U.S. and U.K. Pop charts. "Too Hot” followed suit, landing at #3 R&B, #5 U.S. Pop and #23 in the U.K. singles chart. While not as successful as the previous two singles "Hangin’ Out” still gained a very respectable chart position slowing at #36 on the U.S. R&B and #52 on the U.K. chart.

· BBR is proud to present LADIES NIGHT. This fully expanded and re-mastered edition comes complete with extensive liner notes, with new interviews, and added bonus material.

· This BBR re-master is a must have for all R&B, Soul, Funk, Disco and Pop fans out there!
