Perfect Timing - Donna Allen

Perfect Timing
Florida native Donna Allen rose to fame following the release of her debut album PERFECT TIMING on New York based 21 Records in 1986. A born performer, Donna Allen was a cheerleader for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before becoming a successful singer.
Donna got her start in the music business performing with bands Hi-Octane and Trama before the launch of her successful solo career. DONNA ALLEN also toured for 9 years as a backup singer with Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine.
1986 brought the release of PERFECT TIMING, produced by Lou Pace; arranger behind Miami Sound Machine’s international hit Dr. Beat. This paved the way for numerous chart hits over the next few years. PERFECT TIMING almost reached the Billboard Hot 100 and saw great success in the US R&B Chart rising all the way to #33.
All 3 singles would chart with the debut offering SERIOUS being the most successful scoring #21 on the Billboard Hot 100, #17 in the US Hot Dance Music Singles Chart and smashing into the top 10 on both the US R&B and UK Singles chart. Other singles include SATISFIED, which climbed all the way up to #14 on the US R&B chart and #33 on the US Hot Dance Play Chart while securing a top 100 spot in the UK and SWEET SOMEBODY, which earned a #55 on the US R&B and top 50 on the US Hot Dance Play Chart.

Together
When Rock Your Baby took the global charts by storm in the summer of 1974, it brought wide recognition to T.K Records and instant acclaim for George McCrae. His wife Gwen, who had already tasted chart success on Columbia in 1970, joined him in Henry Stone s Miami empire, and her 1975 hit with Rockin Chair prompted Stone to record the couple on an album of duets.
Together was an obvious title, and Winners Together Losers Apart , an appropriate hit 45 in spring 1976. This release also features special bonus solo tracks by George, including I Ain’t Lyin / You Got to Know , an in-demand US and UK hit 45 from 1975, the collectable Everytime You Say Goodbye from 1984, and club hit Do Something from 1995.

Three D
Little can be said about The Sound Of Philadelphia or Philadelphia International Records without mentioning The Three Degrees. This trio may have had more than 12 different women represent the group so far, but they remain one of the most memorable female vocal acts of the last 40+ years.

In 1979, The Three Degrees released their second album for Ariola Records, 3D, produced by Grammy Award winner Giorgio Moroder fresh from winning an Academy Award for his full movie score on Midnight Express and fellow Grammy Award and Academy Award winner Harold Faltermeyer. The album featured such hits as the fantastic driving beat of the US Dance hits JUMP THE GUN and SET ME FREE and a UK Top Ten hit, the hugely popular sweet and soulful, MY SIMPLE HEART. Other notable singles include the gorgeous funky Earth, Wind & Fire inspired ballad STARLIGHT and WITHOUT YOU.

BBR is proud to present this newly re-mastered and beautifully re-packaged expanded edition of THREE D, complete with extensive liner notes featuring interviews with group members and Ariola Records President Robin Blanchflower along with added bonus tracks. Keep It In The Family/Back To Stay
When Leon Haywood soared into the R&B Top 20 with Keep It In The Family in 1974, it marked the breakthrough for this singer and musician who had spent the previous decade paying his dues working in the road bands of Sam Cooke and Big Jay McNeely, and achieving minor solo success with 45s on Imperial and Decca.

Leon reaped his reward on joining 20th Century Records at the birth of the Dance Music era in the mid 70s as his R&B hit singles crossed over into the Hot 100, inspiring the release of two notable albums, Back To Stay and Keep It In the Family, which Shout! Records is delighted to re-issue for the first time on CD, together with bonus tracks comprising a selection of contemporary Leon s hit singles and their b-sides on 20th Century, all in a comprehensive double CD package.
