Perfect Timing - Donna Allen

Perfect Timing
Florida native Donna Allen rose to fame following the release of her debut album PERFECT TIMING on New York based 21 Records in 1986. A born performer, Donna Allen was a cheerleader for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before becoming a successful singer.
Donna got her start in the music business performing with bands Hi-Octane and Trama before the launch of her successful solo career. DONNA ALLEN also toured for 9 years as a backup singer with Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine.
1986 brought the release of PERFECT TIMING, produced by Lou Pace; arranger behind Miami Sound Machine’s international hit Dr. Beat. This paved the way for numerous chart hits over the next few years. PERFECT TIMING almost reached the Billboard Hot 100 and saw great success in the US R&B Chart rising all the way to #33.
All 3 singles would chart with the debut offering SERIOUS being the most successful scoring #21 on the Billboard Hot 100, #17 in the US Hot Dance Music Singles Chart and smashing into the top 10 on both the US R&B and UK Singles chart. Other singles include SATISFIED, which climbed all the way up to #14 on the US R&B chart and #33 on the US Hot Dance Play Chart while securing a top 100 spot in the UK and SWEET SOMEBODY, which earned a #55 on the US R&B and top 50 on the US Hot Dance Play Chart.

Sharing Your Love
Although they were formed in Bologna, Italy in 1979, there is a strong American character to much of CHANGE’s music. Their sound was strongly influenced by CHIC, while early singles featured vocals by LUTHER VANDROSS. Vocals and additional recording for this album took place in New York City. With the 1982 release of SHARING YOUR LOVE, the second of two albums to feature lead vocalist JAMES ROBINSON, the group’s sound began to move away from disco and club music and towards R&B and Funk.

The single THE VERY BEST IN YOU was a US R&B hit, reaching #16 and spending 14 weeks on the chart. Subsequent single HARD TIMES (IT’S GONNA BE ALRIGHT) also charted. The album reached #14 on the US R&B albums chart and #66 on the Pop chart. BBR is very proud to present SHARING YOUR LOVE in full and expanded form, complete with extensive liner notes that feature interviews along with added bonus tracks.

Pulse
Greg Phillinganes was one of LA’s most prolific session musicians. Stevie Wonder recruited him into his Wonderlove band in 1976 which led to a five year stint with this group. He also featured on all of Michael Jacksons Epic Records recordings. As well as his work with the future King Of Pop he’s also been invited to work with the likes of Aretha Franklin, Paul McCartney, Gil Scott Heron, Diana Ross, Quincy Jones and the Pointer Sisters to name a few as well as being a full time member of Earth Wind & Fire.
PULSE was Greg’s second solo album, released in 1984 on Planet Records. This Richard Perry produced album is a great blend of R&B, Funk and soulful ballads.
BEHIND THE MASK is the opening track and first single from PULSE. Penned by Michael Jackson and later a hit when covered by Eric Clapton. Goldie Looking Chain also sampled this song on their UK #5 album "Greatest Hits

Love For What It Is: Expanded Edition
•    Anita Pointer was born in 1948 in California, the second eldest sister of the hugely successful Pointer Sisters. She joined her sisters Bonnie and June in 1969, officially forming The Pointer Sisters. During the group's career, many of their hits featured lead vocals by Anita. This list included their first hit single, a cover of Allen Toussaint's 'Yes We Can Can' in 1973. Anita co-wrote and sung lead on both 'Fairytale' (which earned her a Grammy for best country single by a duo or group in 1975) and 'How Long (Betcha Got A Chick On The Side)' which gave the group a #1 Billboard soul hit that same year. She also sang lead on the group's biggest American pop hits, 'Fire' and 'Slow Hand' and was the primary writer of their massive international signature hit, 'I'm So Excited.'

•    After the explosive success The Pointer Sisters enjoyed in the mid-eighties with hits like 'Automatic', 'Jump (For My Love)', and 'Dare Me', she decided to take a short break from the group and work on her first solo album. The resulting LP LOVE FOR WHAT IT IS was released in 1987. The album was produced by R&B hit-maker Preston Glass and features two R&B hit singles in the form of the Michael and Brenda Sutton penned 'Overnight Success' as well as 'More Than A Memory'. The former featured a 12" Dance Mix by Francois K and the latter included one by Timmy Regisford. Those remixes make their CD debut here on the album’s first expanded remaster. Other highlights include 'Love Me Like You Do', which made an impact with UK soul fans, the Brenda Russell co-penned 'Beware Of What You Want' and 'The Pledge', a duet with Phillip Bailey of Earth, Wind & Fire.

•    Newly remastered and released in a deluxe Super Jewel case with bonus tracks and a brand new interview with Anita Pointer, LOVE FOR WHAT IT IS is a must for all Eighties Soul, Dance and Pop fans out there!

NB: This title is released on October 27, 2014 and will not be dispatched until this date.
