Hot Shots - Karen Young

Hot Shots
Karen Young, born in March of 1951, grew up in Northeast Philadelphia, PA. Early in her career she sang on various jingles and as a background vocalist for a number of Philadelphia production companies, later performing with a group by the name of Sandd.
In 1978 Karen Young released HOT SHOT on the New York based disco label West End Records. HOT SHOT featured 3 singles including the immensely popular single HOT SHOT, which rose all the way to #67 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and also spent two weeks at the top of the US Dance charts and with it propelling Karen Young from obscurity to stardom almost overnight.
HOT SHOT was written, arranged and produced by Philadelphia’s very own Kurt Borusiewicz and Andy Kahn all overseen by Grammy Award Winner Walter "Kandor” Kahn as executive producer.
Daft Punk later sampled HOT SHOT on Indo Silver Club, featured on their debut album, Homework, released in 1996. Over 10 years later, remixes of HOT SHOT from MaxRoxx Music, DJ Ralphi Rosario, DJ Wayne G, DJ Paul Goodyear and Andy Kahn himself climbed all the way to #7 for two weeks on Billboard Magazine's Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart Returning Karen Young’s name to the charts for 5 weeks almost 30 years since the original release.
Big Break Records is very proud to bring you HOT SHOT for the first time on CD anywhere! Digitally remastered HOT SHOT comes complete with liner notes and added bonus content making this BBR Remaster a must have for all disco, R&B, funk and soul fans out there!

The Three Degrees-Expanded Edition
The Three Degrees' Philadelphia International Records debut made quite an impact upon it's release in 1974.

Having been R&B hit makers for years, the group were no strangers to the American Soul Chart but the pairing of the group with Philadelphia's Gamble & Huff took them to an iconic level of appreciation. The top 20 album spawned the now classic UK #1 When Will I See You Again and the top 20 hit Year Of Decision. Also featured was their Philly debut single Dirty Ol' Man which topped the charts in the Netherlands, staving off the threat of Demis Roussos in the process!

Totally Tata Expanded Edition (Original Recordings Remastered, Bonus Tracks)
Side by side with the reissue of TATA VEGA’s 1976 Full Speed Ahead Motown debut, Soul Music.com Records is very proud to be releasing the multi-talented artist's sophomore album for the label TOTALLY TATA .Released in 1977, TOTALLY TATA once again provided a great musical setting for the native New Yorker. Musicians for the sessions included Andre Lewis (of the Motown group Mandre), Paulinho Da Costa and John Barneswith arrangements by Al Johnson (of Back For More fame) who also worked on Full Speed Ahead and was featured on the key cut track You’ll Never Rock Alone (co-written by Brenda Russell)Totally Tata includes a wonderful version of Stevie Wonder’s Blame It On The Sun, the standout Love Comes From The Most Unexpected Places and the spectacular Come In Heaven (Earth Is Calling), co-written by Marvin Gaye's ex-wife Anna Gordy and Gaye collaborator Elgie Stover with Tata and a staple in Tata’s recording and performance repertoire.

Like its predecessor, TOTALLY TATA was embraced by Motown music lovers worldwide who are elated that the album previously only available on a now out-of-print limited edition Japanese CD is making its return with three bonus tracks: the A and B sides of the planned-but-never-released single version of Come In Heaven and Tata s second version of You’ll Never Rock Alone a duet with Jermaine Jackson, issued on the Motown album Pops, We Love You

Press:-

"It’s hard to imagine a talent like Tata Vega establishing a foothold in the music industry at any other time than the 1970’s. A 5ft nothing, curvy Puerto Rican vocal powerhouse possessed of a startling unique delivery, she certainly would have had a hard time blending into the background of ‘60s girl groups like The Vandellas and Supremes, and would later struggle in the shoulder-padded MTV dominated ‘80s.”

Bonnie Pointer : Expanded Edition
Released on 23rd of January. The founding member of THE POINTER SISTERS, BONNIE POINTER began her performing career in San Francisco nightclubs in 1969. Soon joined by youngest sister June then by elder sisters Ruth and Anita, The Pointer Sisters released a string of hits on Blue Thumb, trailblazing from genre to genre, including funk and jazz, and won their first Grammy award for the country song FAIRYTALE, written by Anita and Bonnie, which would be recorded by ELVIS PRESLEY two years before his death.

In 1976, Bonnie Pointer left the group and soon after signed with Motown. Produced by (her later husband) Jeffrey Bowen, her first Motown album was a critical and commercial success. First single FREE MY FROM MY FREEDOM reached the R&B top 10 in 1978 and was distinctive for being a disco-era funk record with a surprising banjo solo. The album also featured the classic Motown covers WHEN I’M GONE (Brenda Holloway) and HEAVEN MUST HAVE SENT YOU (The Elgins). The latter was soon rerecorded in a Disco style, becoming a top 20 Pop and top 10 Disco hit and a dance classic. Both versions are included in this reissue

The bonus tracks are: Hippychick - Never Trust A Hippy. The result of a studio accident, when a piece of sampling machinery broke and the stuttered samples over the top of the breaks became the mix that broke Hippychick with the loved-up, E-d out Brits who holidayed in the Med in 1990.Scorpio Rising - the story of a man who got his ultimate, final kicks watching a his wife have sex with a stranger through a two way mirror as he gradually chokes to death.  Very limited release as a bonus track for the cassingle release of Out Of My Mind. 1st time on CD.Keep The Faith - a pre-Things Can Only Get Better tune written to keep spirits up in the darkest days of Thatcher's rule in the late 80s.  Never previously released, although it was played live a few times. 1st time on CD.Never Stop - originally part of the Goddess album, ended up as a USA-only B side.
