Skyy Line
The formation of SKYY began in Brooklyn, NY in 1973 when sisters Denise, Bonnie and Dolores Dunning met and joined forces with a musician by the name of Solomon Roberts Jr. Randy Muller, keyboardist for Brass Construction and Arranger for B.T. Express at the time soon joined and by 1976, with Solomon Roberts taking on male vocal and guitar duties, Anibal Anthony Sierra also on guitars and keyboards with Larry Greenberg, Gerald Lebon on bass, and Tommy McConnell on drums, SKYY’s line up was set for success.
In the late 70’s SKYY landed a deal with the legendary Salsoul Records. SKYY released three albums with some R&B success, but it wasn’t until the release of SKYY LINE in 1981 that the group achieved cross over popularity. The album was their biggest Pop chart placement, climbing all the way to #18 while rocketing to the top spot on the US R&B chart and later winning a coveted RIAA Gold Certification.
Single success also followed with the first release, CALL ME, scoring the group a top 40 US Pop hit, climbing all the way to #26. CALL ME went on to become the first R&B #1 single for the group and made it all the way to #3 on the US Dance charts. LETS CELEBRATE followed and achieved a top 20 R&B position, #3 on the US Dance charts while giving the group their first taste of UK Pop chart success landing at #67. Other notable tracks include the funky dance-floor filler, GIRL IN BLUE and the island inspired soul number, GONNA GET IT ON.

Before teaming up to form the duo that released four albums between 1980 and 1986, Rene had played with Brothers Johnson and Angela had been providing backup vocals for the likes of Dolly Parton and Stevie Wonder. As well as being successful recording acts in their own right they were also talented producers working with the likes of Janet Jackson and The Isley Brothers. Over the course of their 4 albums they notched up twelve R&B hits including the #1’s ‘Save Your Love’ and ‘Your Smile.’

RISE was their third album release on Capitol Records and is full of classic sounding 80’s Soul and R&B including the second single KEEP RUNNIN’. RISE reached the #33 position in the US R&B charts shortly after it’s release.

BANGIN’ THE BOOGIE, the self-penned first single, mirrored the success of the album also gaining the R&B #33 spot.

MY FIRST LOVE was the single that really secured Rene & Angela a large fan base, this terrific ballad secured them the R&B #12. This rise in attention for Rene & Angela led to their follow up becoming a platinum selling album.

Released in deluxe Super Jewel cases, with bonus tracks RISE is a must for all Soul, R&B and Disco fans.

"By 1983 Rene and Angela were about to release their third, and what would become their most successful album, Rise. This was Rene Moore and Angela Winbush’s follow-up to their 1981 album Wall to Wall.”
