"The group's first, breakthrough set for Philly International, released in 1972, featuring and making a star of Teddy Pendergrass. It's the set that gave the world If You Don't Know Me By Now, of course: one of the most instantly recognisable intros of all time backed up by one of Teddy's signature vocals. It was pure deep soul as a pop hit - now that hasn't happened too often". 5*

How Sweet It Is: The Columbia Hit Singles 1976-1981
Released on 25/01/10. For the first time on one CD all of Tyrone Davis Billboard R&B chart hits of the 1970s recorded for the Columbia label.

Tyrone Davis had been a prolific recording artist and hit maker for many years when he signed to the major CBS Corporation in 1976. It was not until 1965 that he finally got a break with Jack Daniels of Four Brothers Productions where he released three singles on Four Brothers before he signed to ABC Records but Tyrone became convinced that a song Can I Change My Mind was a hit but ABC did not and after some negotiation Davis was able to offer the disc to other labels.

Davis was one of the biggest draws in Black America and he continued to tour incessantly until suffering a massive stroke in October of 2004 that kept him hospitalised until February 9th 2005 when he died at the age of 66.
