Gravity - James Brown

Gravity
James Brown, also known as the Godfather of Soul and the Hardest Working Man in Show Business, had a career that would put any others in the business to shame.  He worked tirelessly until his unfortunate demise on Christmas day in 2006 writing, recording and performing some of Soul and Funks true classics. He notched up an impressive seventeen R&B #1’s including It’s A Man’s Man’s World, I Got You (I Feel Good), Make It Funky and Super Bad.

GRAVITY was produced by Dan Hartman (Relight My Fire, Instant Replay, I Dream About You) in 1986 due to the phenomenal success of LIVING IN AMERICA from the soundtrack to Rocky VI.  This single gained the #4 spot in the Pop chart, #10 in the R&B and #5 in the UK.

GRAVITY, the follow up single reached #26 in the R&B chart as well as #93 in the Pop chart.  Also featured on this album is the James Brown classic TURN ME LOOSE, I’M DR. FEELGOOD which is a sure fire dancefloor filler.

HOW DO YOU STOP was the third single release and returned James to the R&B top 10.  It is a minor classic in Brown’s catalogue and was later covered by none other than Joni Mitchell on her 1994 album Turbulent Indigo.

Press:-

"The group's first, breakthrough set for Philly International, released in 1972, featuring and making a star of Teddy Pendergrass. It's the set that gave the world If You Don't Know Me By Now, of course: one of the most instantly recognisable intros of all time backed up by one of Teddy's signature vocals. It was pure deep soul as a pop hit - now that hasn't happened too often". 5*

Intuition
LINX started out life as a 5-piece Soul and Brit-Funk band. Signed to Chrysalis records, the band released their first single in 1980 titled, YOU'RE LYING which yielded the group a top 20 single reaching #15 on the UK Pop Chart. Shortly before the release of their debut album, the band slimmed down their line up and became a duo consisting of bass player Peter Martin and singer David Grant who has worked with many artists as a backing singer including Diana Ross and The Lighthouse Family. In the Spring of 1981 LINX tasted their next piece of chart success when INTUITION, the title track from the band's 1981 album release, made it into the top 10 scoring a #7 on the UK Pop charts featuring a distinct Caribbean flavour. The follow up single, THROW AWAY THE KEY, is driven by a classic funk bass line and David Grant's effortless vocals glide over the top which returned the group to the UK Pop chart at #21. YOU'RE LYING also gained an impressive #27 US R&B chart position with TOGETHER WE CAN SHINE following suit, securing an R&B top 50 spot. BBR is very proud to present the first ever CD issue of the Brit-Funk classic, INTUITION, in full and expanded form, complete with extensive liner notes that feature an interview with David Grant along with added bonus tracks. Love Conquers All- Expanded Edition
Released on 29/08/11. Before embarking on a solo career in the 1980s, Californian R&B singer Michael Wycoff was best known for singing backup on Stevie Wonder’s 1976 album Songs In The Key Of Life and working with artists including Natalie Cole. Love Conquers All was Wycoff’s second album, containing the hit R&B single Looking Up To You and the underground dance classic Diamond Real. Wycoff released three albums in the 1980s before falling on hard times and ultimately rebuilding his life through the church. Wycoff might have become just one more forgotten artist, but after Zhane sampled Looking UP To You on their 1994 Top Ten US Pop hit HEY MR. D.J. fans rediscovered Love Conquers All, which remains a highly sought-after underground classic to this day. BBR is very proud to present Love Conquers All in full and expanded form, complete with extensive liner notes that feature interviews along with added bonus tracks.
