Serious Slammin' - Pointer Sisters

Serious Slammin'
The Pointer Sisters were one of the most successful female groups the music industry has seen with 13 top 20 singles and eight top 40 albums shared between the US and UK pop charts. SERIOUS SLAMMIN’ was their ninth & final album with Richard Perry and saw him take the group into the harder electronic funk sound akin to Cameo/Gap Band hits of the period.
HE TURNED ME OUT was the first single and was also the opening theme to the cult movie Action Jackson. This single release saw the sisters return to the top 40 of the R&B and Dance charts.
The second single I’M IN LOVE was written by Jonathan Butler and Simon May and was originally a minor UK hit for Ruby Turner. The Pointer Sisters version became their final R&B hit on RCA Records as well as making the top 40 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart.
Featured as a bonus track on this edition of SERIOUS SLAMMIN’ is the 12” extended remix of BE THERE from Beverly Hills Cop 2. After the huge success of Neutron Dance, featured in Beverly Hills Cop, the Pointers were invited to contribute to the soundtrack of the follow up movie. BE THERE was produced by 80’s hit maker Narada Michael Walden fresh from his hits with Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin. The 12” remix featured here was mixed by Shep Pettibone and became the groups final hot 100 hit in 1987. This marks the first time the song has ever appeared on a Pointer Sisters album

Break Out
The Pointer Sisters were one of the most successful female groups the music industry has seen with 13 top 20 singles and 8 top 40 albums shared between the US and UK pop charts. The 1983 release of Break Out saw the group reach the peak of their commercial success. This was the group's sixth album with producer Richard Perry, with whom they had three big US Pop hits: FIRE (#2, 1979), HE'S SO SHY (#3, 1980) and Slow Hand (#2, 1981). With BREAK OUT, the group took the advice of RUTH POINTER’s son, who wanted them to record a dance album. PERRY sought out associate producers for each track, giving BREAK OUT the electronic feel of 1983 R&B. The album’s lead single I Need You was recorded to reintroduce the group to their African-American fanbase, reaching the R&B Top 20. Second single Automatic reached #2 R&B and #5 Pop, giving the group their biggest hit for three years and becoming massively successful internationally. Jump (For My Love) followed suit, reaching #3 Pop and R&B in the US and #6 in the UK. BBR is very proud to present this 2CD deluxe edition, featuring the 1983 version of the album (massively successful on its release in the UK) for the first time on CD, plus the updated 1984 version and all of the 12" and 7" versions of each track from the album. Released in a deluxe digipak with 24-page booklet, the extensive liner notes feature interviews with Anita Pointer, Ruth Pointer, Richard Perry and several of the album’s associate producers. This edition of Break Out introduces BBR’s new deluxe 2CD re-masters.

Turn on Your Radio
Although they were formed in Bologna, Italy in 1979, there is a strong American character to much of CHANGE’s music. Their sound was strongly influenced by CHIC, while early singles featured vocals by LUTHER VANDROSS.  Vocals and additional recording for this album took place in New York City.

1985’s TURN ON YOUR RADIO was the sixth and final CHANGE album, and saw the return of founder JACQUES FRED PETRUS as producer. Single LET’S GO TOGETHER gave the group their final US R&B hit. The album also achieved sizeable international success, with LET’S GO TOGETHER reaching the UK Top 40 and OH WHAT A FEELING also charting in the UK. The album also reached the UK Top 40 and the US R&B chart.

BBR is very proud to present TURN ON YOUR RADIO in full and expanded form, complete with extensive liner notes that feature interviews along with added bonus tracks.

Energy
· The Pointer Sisters trail blazed a unique path for themselves working with genres as diverse as funk (Yes We Can Can, How Long), jazz/vocalese (Steam Heat, Cloudburst) and country (Fairytale), all on Blue Thumb Records. Bonnie Pointer left the group in 1976 and the remaining trio of Ruth, Anita and June Pointer eventually signed with Richard Perry’s fledgling label Planet Records. Impressed by their unique ability to fit their vocals into any genre Perry decided to fashion the sisters an album of innovative new arrangements of lesser known compositions by the rock fraternity.
· ENERGY bowed in late 1978 and was quickly certified gold making US Pop #13 & R&B #9 in the process. The album was preceded by their cover of Bruce Springsteen’s FIRE which became their first gold single. FIRE made #2 on the Hot 100 as well as hitting the #1 spot in the Netherlands, South Africa and New Zealand.
· EVERYBODY IS A STAR (Sly and The Family Stone) was chosen as ENERGY’s first UK single where the sisters made their debut performance on Top Of The Pops performing the hit song.
· HAPPINESS saw the group returning to the repertoire of Alan Toussaint after charting hits with his "Yes We Can Can” and "Going Down Slowly” earlier in the decade. The single made the top 20 of both the R&B and Disco charts in the US in 197.

· ENERGY also features songs originally recorded by Steely Dan (Dirty Work), Fleetwood Mac (Hypnotized), Redbone (Come And Get Your Love) and The Doobie Brothers (Echoes Of Love) and further enhanced the Pointers reputation of being one of the most versatile vocal acts the music industry has ever known.

· Newly remastered and released in deluxe Super Jewel cases with bonus tracks and brand new interviews, ENERGY is a must for all Rock, Soul and Pop fans out there!
