Released on 25/01/10. For the first time on one CD all of Tyrone Davis Billboard R&B chart hits of the 1970s recorded for the Columbia label.

Tyrone Davis had been a prolific recording artist and hit maker for many years when he signed to the major CBS Corporation in 1976. It was not until 1965 that he finally got a break with Jack Daniels of Four Brothers Productions where he released three singles on Four Brothers before he signed to ABC Records but Tyrone became convinced that a song Can I Change My Mind was a hit but ABC did not and after some negotiation Davis was able to offer the disc to other labels.

Davis was one of the biggest draws in Black America and he continued to tour incessantly until suffering a massive stroke in October of 2004 that kept him hospitalised until February 9th 2005 when he died at the age of 66.

Alicia / Alicia Again : Two Original Classic Soul Albums On One Cd
The former lead singer with the R&B/dance music group One Way, Detroit-born Alicia Myers had a total of four albums released on MCA Records between 1981-84, experiencing varying degrees success with each.Produced by songwriter and One Way bass player Kevin McCord and multi-instrumentalist Al Perkins, the 1981 LP ALICIA – previously only available on CD in Japan – contained two tracks that have long been favourites among soul music collectors on both sides of the Atlantic: the gospel-influenced ‘I Want To Thank You’ (a US Top 40 R&B hit) and the rare groove gem, ‘If You Play Your Cards Right.’ The album spent six months on the US R&B charts.Released just eight months after her well-received MCA debut, ALICIA AGAIN – reissued for the first time worldwide with this 2012 Records two-on-one CD – was also produced by Al Perkins and was a family affair including a number of song penned by Alicia’s bassist brother Jackie and her siblings Evalyn and Aaron with Jackie on background vocals. Musicians included guitarist Bruce Nazarian (Johnnie Taylor, the Temptations, and Brides of Funkenstein); Parliament-Funkadelic percussionist Larry Fratangelo; and One Way keyboardist Corky Meadows.

"Myers’ voice, with its huskiness, smoky timbre and strong gospel inflections is certainly distinctive though some of the material on her debut – helmed by fellow One Way cohorts, Al Perkins and Kevin McCord – is not equal to the strength of her impressive pipes.”

Winner Takes All
Originally formed as a gospel quartet in the 1950s, THE ISLEY BROTHERS went on to massive success in a decades-spanning career that has seen them cross all genres from doo-wop to R&B, funk, soul and rock. Reaching their third decade as a musical act in the 1970s, The Isley Brothers continued to reinvent themselves with line-up changes and new sounds ranging from 1973's hit rock anthem Summer Breeze to the socially conscious soul and funk of their mid-70s albums.
WINNER TAKES ALL, released in 1979, reached #3 on the R&B charts and #14 on the Pop charts despite being a full double album, proving the high popularity of the group at this time.
The first single, and opening track on the album, I WANNA BE WITH YOU (PART 1), swept all before it to secure The Isley Brothers’ 5th R&B chart topper in early ’79. The title track, WINNER TAKES ALL, continued the chart success hitting #38 on the R&B chart before the group made a departure from their R&B/Funk/Rock sound of previous years and hit the Dance charts with the contemporary track IT’S A DISCO NIGHT (ROCK DON’T STOP) with Rudy Isley on lead vocal helping the single climb to #44 on the Disco charts and #27 R&B while across the Atlantic it would peak at #14 on the UK pop chart.
BBR is very proud to add WINNER TAKES ALL to our previous ISLEY BROTHERS releases. Newly re-mastered and repackaged with extensive liner notes and expansive bonus content.
This BBR Remaster is a must have for all R&B, Soul, Funk and Disco fans out there!
