New York at Dawn - Elbow Bones and the Racketeers

New York at Dawn
· The pseudonym Elbow Bones & The Racketeers was another project by August Darnell (Kid Creole And The Coconuts).
· NEW YORK AT DAWN was released in 1983 after August notching up UK top ten hits with the singles I’m A Wonderful Thing (Baby), Stool Pigeon and Annie I’m Not Your Daddy in 1982. The last of which came from his UK #3 album Tropical Gangsters.
· A NIGHT IN NEW YORK was the album’s first single and was a big airplay hit in the UK. The single spent five weeks in the top 40 in early 1984 as well as reaching #24 in the Dance charts in the States.
· NEW YORK AT DAWN features lyricist Debbie Clarkin and Frank ‘Pago Pago’ Passalacqua’ – lead singer with Gichy Dan. Press:-

"The group's first, breakthrough set for Philly International, released in 1972, featuring and making a star of Teddy Pendergrass. It's the set that gave the world If You Don't Know Me By Now, of course: one of the most instantly recognisable intros of all time backed up by one of Teddy's signature vocals. It was pure deep soul as a pop hit - now that hasn't happened too often". 5*

O'Chi Deluxe Edition
Tottenham-born O Chi Brown was discovered by a Trojan Records producer at the age of 17. She made her name in the early 80s with a string of Lovers Rock covers, ranging from Bob Marley to "Auld Lang Syne", "A Whiter Shade of Pale" and "Unchained Melody". In 1985, the single Why Can t We Be Friends? marked a move towards a more upbeat pop sound and secured O Chi a deal with Magnet Records for an album to be recorded at Pete Waterman s newly-established PWL Studios. "O chi" was followed in 1987 by a second Magnet LP, "Light The Night", O chi s last album to date.

Original CD copies of "O chi" are amongst the most sought-after of all PWL-related releases and often change hands for three-figure sums. Now the album becomes the latest in a long line of Hit Factory classics to be reissued on Cherry Pop.

Face to Face : Expanded Edition
Released 16th January 2012 Few artists transitioned from the Disco era as successfully as Evelyn "Champagne” King. Tagged as a "Disco Diva” having set dance floors ablaze with her Disco smash hit ‘Shame’, Evelyn was then able to transition into being one of the most successful R&B acts of the 1980s.

She achieved this via her hit 1981 album I’m In Love with the single of the same name becoming a US R&B #1 and reaching #27 in the UK Charts. This success was quickly followed up with the 1982 album Get Loose which became a US R&B #1 album as well as being her first UK Top Forty album, The album also spawned the mega-hit Love Come Down.

The 1983 album Face To Face saw Evelyn being teamed with producers Leon Sylvers (fresh from his chart-topping work with Shalamar) and Prince Collaborator Andre Cymone to develop her transition into the increasingly electronic sounds of the 80s. The album also produced three R&B/Dance hit singles - "Action”, "Shake Down” and "Teenager” – which all gained top 30 spots in the US R&B Chart and all appear in remix format on this BBR remaster.
