Turn on Your Radio - Change

Turn on Your Radio
Although they were formed in Bologna, Italy in 1979, there is a strong American character to much of CHANGE’s music. Their sound was strongly influenced by CHIC, while early singles featured vocals by LUTHER VANDROSS.  Vocals and additional recording for this album took place in New York City.

1985’s TURN ON YOUR RADIO was the sixth and final CHANGE album, and saw the return of founder JACQUES FRED PETRUS as producer. Single LET’S GO TOGETHER gave the group their final US R&B hit. The album also achieved sizeable international success, with LET’S GO TOGETHER reaching the UK Top 40 and OH WHAT A FEELING also charting in the UK. The album also reached the UK Top 40 and the US R&B chart.

BBR is very proud to present TURN ON YOUR RADIO in full and expanded form, complete with extensive liner notes that feature interviews along with added bonus tracks.

Serious Slammin'
The Pointer Sisters were one of the most successful female groups the music industry has seen with 13 top 20 singles and eight top 40 albums shared between the US and UK pop charts. SERIOUS SLAMMIN’ was their ninth & final album with Richard Perry and saw him take the group into the harder electronic funk sound akin to Cameo/Gap Band hits of the period.
HE TURNED ME OUT was the first single and was also the opening theme to the cult movie Action Jackson. This single release saw the sisters return to the top 40 of the R&B and Dance charts.
The second single I’M IN LOVE was written by Jonathan Butler and Simon May and was originally a minor UK hit for Ruby Turner. The Pointer Sisters version became their final R&B hit on RCA Records as well as making the top 40 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart.
Featured as a bonus track on this edition of SERIOUS SLAMMIN’ is the 12” extended remix of BE THERE from Beverly Hills Cop 2. After the huge success of Neutron Dance, featured in Beverly Hills Cop, the Pointers were invited to contribute to the soundtrack of the follow up movie. BE THERE was produced by 80’s hit maker Narada Michael Walden fresh from his hits with Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin. The 12” remix featured here was mixed by Shep Pettibone and became the groups final hot 100 hit in 1987. This marks the first time the song has ever appeared on a Pointer Sisters album

Something Special (Expanded Edition)
KOOL & THE GANG need no introduction. They were the top selling Soul group of the 70’s and 80’s having sold over 70 million albums worldwide and have received countless awards. Without them we would not have such great hits as ‘Summer Madness,’ ‘Get Down On It,’ ‘Celebration’ and who could forget that slammin’ funk monster that features so heavily in Quentin Tarantino’s cult flick - Pulp Fiction; ‘Jungle Boogie.’

1981 brought with it the release of SOMETHING SPECIAL, Kool & The Gang’s 15th studio album, in the same year they would win Favourite Band, Duo or Group in the Soul/Rhythm & Blues category at the American Music Awards and would once again feature Grammy Award winner, Eumir Deodato’s special touch on production duties.

SOMETHING SPECIAL rose to #1 on Billboard’s Top Soul Albums and a top 20 position in the Billboard album chart along with reaching #10 in the U.K. becoming the bands most successful U.K. album to date spending 20 weeks in the charts as well as going Platinum in the U.S. and Gold in the U.K. in December of 1981 and April 1982, respectively.

Singles featured on SOMETHING SPECIAL include ‘Take My Heart (You Can Have It If You Want It)’ which shot to the top of the U.S. R&B chart while gaining top 20 spots on both the U.S. Pop and Dance charts while later achieving a top 30 position in the U.K. ‘Get Down On It’ followed and did even better landing at #10 U.S. Pop, #4 in the R&B charts and better still in the U.K. attaining a #3 position. Beyond that ‘Get Down On It’ has gone on to become one of the band’s most instantly recognizable hits. Kool & The Gang’s chart success didn’t stop there; ‘Steppin’ Out’ also went on to chart, landing an impressive #12 spot on both the U.S. R&B chart and U.K. singles chart.

BBR is proud to present SOMETHING SPECIAL This fully expanded and newly re-mastered edition comes complete with extended liner notes, including new interviews, and added bonus material.

As One (Expanded Edition)

KOOL & THE GANG need no introduction. They were the top selling Soul group of the 70’s and 80’s having sold over 70 million albums worldwide and have received countless awards. Without them we would not have such great hits as ‘Summer Madness,’ ‘Get Down On It,’ ‘Celebration’ and who could forget that slammin’ funk monster that features so heavily in Quentin Tarantino’s cult flick - Pulp Fiction; ‘Jungle Boogie.’

1982 would see Kool & The Gang release AS ONE, their 16th studio album. AS ONE went on to become a U.S. Certified Gold album in November of 1982 helped by its top 30 position on the U.S. charts, and top 50 in the U.K. (spending 10 weeks in the U.K. album chart), while also climbing all the way to #5 on the U.S. R&B album chart. The legendary Grammy Award winning pianist, Eumir Deodato would once again take hold of production duties, assisted by Kool & The Gang.

The first single release was ‘Big Fun,’ laden with a killer funky bass line and an equally impressive brass section; the single returned the group to the R&B top ten and UK top twenty. ‘Let’s Go Dancing (Ooh La La La)’ made the most noise on the chart front, earning an impressive top 30 position on the U.S. Pop charts like its predecessor and top 10 spots in both the U.S. R&B and U.K. charts. ‘Hi De Hi, Hi De Ho’ was also received well in the U.K. climbing to #29 on the U.K. charts while the third U.S. single, up-tempo, funky jam ‘Street Kids,’ became a further R&B chart hit.

Other notable tracks include the smooth and soulful album closer ‘Think It Over’ and the similarly paced title track.

BBR is proud to present AS ONE in fully expanded and newly re-mastered glory, complete with extensive liner notes including new interviews, and added bonus material.

In The Evening: Expanded Edition
SHERYL LEE RALPH is a very successful actress, singer and philanthropist who has appeared in many Broadway musicals, Hollywood films and television shows since the beginning of the 1980's. Ralph first came to prominence having created the role of Deena Jones in the incredibly successful and award winning Broadway musical Dreamgirls for which she was nominated as Best Actress  at the 1982 Tony Awards.  This role was recently reprised on the silver screen by Jennifer Hudson who won an Oscar for her efforts.  Ralph has since secured both Tony and Drama Desk best Actress awards for her performances in subsequent Broadway shows.

As a result of the success of Dreamgirls Ralph ventured into the recording studio in 1984 to provide us with her acclaimed debut album IN THE EVENING. Produced by Trevor Lawrence (I’m So Excited) , IN THE EVENING immediately struck a chord with the U.S. music buying public who helped the title track and lead single peak at #6 on the Billboard Dance charts.

The title track ‘In The Evening’ is a full on 80's dancer with a solid and smooth synthesized rhythm section which pins down the groove, and the obligatory electric lead guitar which adds a grittier night time vibe to the track, allowing Ralph's vocal to shake off the daily trials of big city life and lead us to where she feels most alive... in the evening. The second single to be lifted from the album, ‘You're So Romantic’ (R&B #84) is another dancer and picks the pace up from ‘In The Evening.’ Again the smooth synthesized rhythms are in evidence, this time with a very Latin tinged horn line that drives the track while Ralph pines for the attention of her lover. Other notable tracks are the mid-tempo groove ‘Ready Or Not’ with its bubbling bass line and anthemic chorus, and the beautiful, piano led ballad ‘I'm So Glad That We've Met.’

Hot Shot Records/BBR is proud to present IN THE EVENING. This expanded and re-mastered edition comes complete with extensive liner notes that feature an interview with Trevor Lawrence and added bonus material.

This Hot Shot Records/BBR remaster is a must have for all Eighties R&B, Soul, Dance and Pop fans out there!
