PENNYE FORD was born Penny Ford in 1964 in Cincinnati, Ohio and is the daughter of Gene Redd Sr., the record company executive and former producer at King Records, famous for once having James Brown on their roster. She is also the sister of the late Sharron Redd and Gene Redd Jr. who was a songwriter for Kool & The Gang and BMP. In her youth Pennye studied various musical instruments and this led to her joining a group called Reach and toured extensively with them throughout Japan. On her return to the US, PENNYE FORD got a job at the Motown publishing company, Jobete Music and recorded a few demos of their catalogue. Later she worked on Total Experience Records where she had a short stint as a backing singer for The GAP Band. PENNYE FORD also features as the uncredited lead vocalist for the German electronic dance band Snap! on their 1990 #1 hit, The Power.In 1984 PENNYE FORD released her debut album entitled PENNYE. The album features the production of label owner Lonnie Simmons and contained two hits for Ford in the form of the up-tempo groove, CHANGE YOU WICKED WAYS, which reached #76 on the UK Singles chart and the popular Dance single DANGEROUS, that soared to #24 in the US Dance chart and a top 50 spot in the UK charts. Other notable tracks include the seriously funky slow jam DON’T YOU KNOW I LOVE YOU which is backed by a deep synth bassline that you cant help but love and the softer and more soulful, SERIOUS LOVE written and produced by Pennye herself.

Black & Blue was Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes second Philadelphia International album, released in
1973. The album features the lead vocals of Teddy Pendergrass and the classic Philly production of Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff.

Featured are the full length versions of Philly anthems THE LOVE I LOST (#1 R&B) and SATISFACTION GUARANTEED (#6 R&B). Faces

The Gap Band VI
THE GAP BAND enjoyed huge success throughout the 70s and 80s with their unique sound and contribution to the Funk scene. Formed in 1967 in their hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma, brothers Charlie, Ronnie and Robert Wilson first went by the name Greenwood, Archer and Pine Street Band later shortening the name to THE GAP BAND in 1973. LA Producer, Lonnie Simmons, signed them to his label, Total Experience Records, setting in motion what would be the start of a long and prosperous relationship between THE GAP BAND and Simmons.

Notable hits include their top ten hit Shake, the breakthrough single from The Gap Band II, I Don't Believe You Want To Get Up And Dance (Oops!) and the number one R&B hit Early In The Morning taken from their 1982 #1 R&B album The Gap Band IV. 1985 brought the release of THE GAP BAND VI and with it the band soared back to the top of the R&B album chart with the chosen singles also enjoying impressive chart positions. The first single BEEP A FREAK, peaked at #2 R&B, their highest chart spot since Outstanding took the top spot on the R&B charts in 1982. The albums other two singles followed suit with I FOUND MY BABY hitting #8 in the R&B chart, and DISRESPECT earning a Top 20 R&B position.

Am I Still Your Boyfriend?- Expanded Edition
SWITCH were a US funk band that started out in Ohio with the name, First Class. Discovered by Jermaine Jackson, the original line up included Phillip Ingram, Bobby and Tommy DeBarge, Greg Williams, Eddie Fluellan and Jody Sims. Switch are Probably best known for their stint on Gordy Records where they produced 3 top ten hits that included 1978’s There’ll Never Be Another, 1979’s I Call Your Name and Love Over and Over Again released in 1980.

In 1980, Philip Ingram, brother of James Ingram, left the group to pursue a solo career and later formed the Electronic Funk band Deco with Attala Zane Giles, and released and album called Fresh Idea on Qwest Records in 1983. Bobby and Tommy DeBarge also left the group to join the family group, De Barge who were one of the few groups that enjoyed success on Motown during the 1980’s. Keyboardist, Attala Zane Giles, and percussion/vocalists, Renard Gallo and Gonzales Ozen. By 1984 Switch had signed with Total Experience Records and set about releasing Am I Still Your Boyfriend which includes the soulful UK hit, Keeping Secrets the smooth, mid-tempo title track and the sweet love ballad, I’m So Satisfied BBR is proud to present the first ever remaster of Switch’s 1984 album, Am I Still Your Boyfriend, complete with extensive liner notes featuring interviews with band members and bonus tracks.

Guilty- Expanded Edition
YARBROUGH & PEOPLES first set airwaves alight when their futuristic hit, Don’t Stop The Music shot to #1 on the R&B charts. Following the success of their first single they recorded numerous hit singles on Total Experience Records throughout the 80’s.

YARBROUGH & PEOPLES consisted of childhood friends Cavin Yarbrough and Alisa Peoples. Cavin Yarbrough started as a singer and keyboardist for a group called Grand Theft and one night at a gig, the Wilson brothers, founders of The GAP Band, were in the audience and offered Cavin a job as a background singer on the Leon Russell tour they were a part of. Soon after returning to Dallas, Alisa Peoples sang with Grand Theft and once again at a gig in Dallas, The Gap Band, now signed to Total Experience Records, introduced them to label owner and producer, Lonnie Simmons. The Result of this introduction? Four hit albums and numerous hit singles until the labels demise in the late 80s.
