Beyond The Darkness 1977-2001 - Goblin

Beyond The Darkness 1977-2001
•    Beyond the Darkness is an anthology of the second half of the career of the composers Goblin, perhaps best known for the propulsive, labyrinthic scores which illuminate the horror masterpieces of Italian film director Dario Argento.

•    Goblin's genius lies in skilfully combining elements of progressive psychedelia with jazz-rock, Eastern European folk music and the Baroque. Their music often displays an eerie fairy tale quality that underscores tensions within a film to great effect.

•    If Bella Casa's 2012 box set, The Awakening (CASA12BOX) documented Goblin's formative years, this edition comprises selections from ten films scored by the group across a twenty-five year period from 1977, culminating in Non Ho Sonno the Argento thriller for which this remarkable aggregation reformed to help create.

Bluebell Wood
Big Sleep were a Welsh band whose influence was far beyond their sole album offering released in 1971. The band members (formerly with Eyes of Blue) would all soon head for greater things in bands such as Gentle Giant, Man and Wild Turkey (formed by ex-Jethro Tull bassist Glenn Cornick). An album that features many fine songs and styles, "Bluebell Wood", (originally released on the highly collectable Pegasus label), has been sought after by collectors for many years thanks to its influence and place in the history of British progressive rock and in the annals of Welsh rock. Re-mastered from the original master tapes, "Bluebell Wood" has never sounded so good. This release is sure to appeal to followers of Man and Gentle Giant in particular. The First ever- official CD release for this classic album - now 24-bit re-mastered. Our Price: £10.95

Changes ~ The Story Of Beryl Marsden
Beryl Marsden played a key part of the Merseybeat boom of the 1960s and yet amazingly this is her first-ever CD compilation. Changes celebrates her 50th year of performing with her entire recorded output. All of Beryl’s 1960s singles for Decca and Columbia are present, including her two duets with Peter Bardens / Tony Colton in the Shotgun Express, the hugely collectable Mod dancer ‘What She’s Got’ and an elusive live track from the rare Decca album At The Cavern.

Changes also boasts her obscure 1981 single ‘Hungry For You’ (produced by Pete Bardens) and some fascinating recent recordings, including a version of ‘I’ll Be There’, her performance of which closed the recent TV documentary on The Cavern. Beryl will be promoting Changes with a flurry of shows and interviews across 2012, including shows in both London and Liverpool.

Press:-

"Liverpool was a hotbed of musical talent in the 1960’s and, with some justification, many veteran scousers reckon that the city’s best female singer was not Cilla black but Beryl Marsden". Music Week, April 2012

Transformation (The Speed Of Love)
•    NEWLY REMASTERED EDITION OF THIS CLASSIC 1976 PROGRESSIVE / JAZZ ROCK ALBUM
•    WITH FULLY RESTORED ARTWORK AND NEW LINER NOTES

Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the release of a newly re-mastered edition of the classic jazz rock album "Transformation (The Speed of Love)” by DAVID SANCIOUS & TONE. An accomplished guitarist and keyboard player, Sancious first came to prominence as a member of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band in the early 1970s, appearing on Springsteen’s first three albums before opting to pursue a solo career. He formed the group Tone in 1974 with drummer Ernest Carter (a fellow ex- Springsteen musician) and bass player Gerald Carboy. With Springsteen’s assistance Sancious secured a contract with Epic Records that year and recorded the album "Forest of Feelings” soon after.

The second album "Transformation (The Speed of Love)” was released in 1976 and followed the form of Sancious’ debut album, drawing on Progressive and Jazz Rock influences. Produced by Sancious and Bruce Botnik, "Transformation” featured the epic side-long title track and was another excellent work. "Transformation” enjoyed a fleeting appearance on CD and has long been unavailable. This Esoteric Recordings release has been newly re-mastered and features a booklet that fully restores the original album artwork and includes a new essay by Sid Smith.

NB: This title is released July 28 and will not be dispatched before this date.

Track Listing:

2.    SKY CHURCH HYMN #9

Reaffirmation: An Anthology 1971-1973 2CD
•    A NEW REMASTERED TWO CD ANTHOLOGY BY HELP YOURSELF
•    FEATURING TRACKS FROM EVERY ALBUM ISSUED BY UNITED ARTISTS AND A RARE SINGLE
•    BOOKLET WITH NEW ESSAY BY MICHAEL HEATLEY

Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the release of "Reaffirmation”, a comprehensive anthology by the unsung heroes of British early 70s rock, HELP YOURSELF. Help Yourself was formed in London in 1970, originally as a backing band for singer-songwriter MALCOLM MORLEY and took their influences from American West Coast Country and Acid Rock. After Morley signed to the Famepushers management stable, his manager John Eichler suggested Morley form a new band and HELP YOURSELF was born. Featuring Malcolm Morley (guitars, keyboards, vocals), former Sam Apple Pie member Dave Charles (drums, percussion, vocals), Richard Treece (guitars, vocals, harmonica) and Ken Whaley (bass), the band signed to United Artists in 1970 and their eponymous debut album was issued in 1971.

Following a tour with label mates Brinsley Schwarz and Ernie Graham (also Famepushers artists), Ken Whaley departed the band. An expanded line-up including Ernie Graham and Jonathan Glemser began work on the album "Strange Affair” in 1972, but Graham and Glemser’s departure half-way through the recording saw roadie Paul Burton join the band to complete the album, (which would include the excellent extended track ‘The All Electric Fur Trapper’). The band embarked on a tour of Switzerland with Welsh rock legends Man and a bond formed between the two groups. The band’s "Beware the Shadow” was an even stronger effort, featuring the Help’s twelve-minute anthem, ‘Reaffirmation’, a track that displayed the instrumental excellence of the group. Prior to a tour to promote their most recent album Malcolm Morley fell ill with depression and Deke Leonard, recently dismissed from Man, took his place. When Morley recovered, Leonard remained with the band, appearing with them on the "Christmas at the Patti” concert in December 1972. In early 1973 Deke Leonard departed the band to pursue a solo career and the band began work on the album "Happy Days”, a record that also featured The Flying Aces and Vivian "Spiv’ Morris. Paul Burton’s departure during these sessions saw Ken Whaley return to the band. Work then commenced on another album, "the Return of Ken Whaley”. Both albums were released as a package by United Artists later that year. Although critically acclaimed, commercial success continued to elude the band and in August 1973 Help Yourself disbanded, with Malcolm Morley and Ken Whaley joining Man in 1974 for their album "Winos, Rhinos and Lunatics”.

Forty years on, HELP YOURSELF is now regarded as one of the great, unsung British bands of their era. This anthology gathers together the essential tracks from all of their albums released by United Artists, newly re-mastered from the original master tapes. It features a booklet with essay by Michael Heatley and is a tribute to their genius.

NB: This title is released July 28 and will not be dispatched before this date.

Disco Kicks: The Complete Moby Dick Recordings
•    Arriving at the tail end of the disco era The Boys Town Gang, somewhat belatedly summed up everything daring and subversive that the golden age of dance had been known for.  The brainchild of San Franciscan DJ/producer Bill Motley, the Boys Town Gang were a hastily assembled fictitious group in the classic industry mould of Shalamar.

•    The group’s first release contained two tracks that instantly became underground club classics. A discofied medley of the two early solo Diana Ross hits ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’ and ‘Remember Me’ immediately opened doors for the group when it appeared on DJ set lists all over the USA in 1981. But the powerhouse track turned out to be on the flipside. ‘Cruisin’ The Streets’ had a new sound that set it apart from any disco record before it. With lead vocals by Cynthia Manley the song was overtly sexual and homoerotic.

•    When ‘Cruisin’ The Streets’ became a massive international club hit a permanent group was formed featuring vocalist Jackson Moore replacing Manley. The newly formed trio’s biggest hit was their discofied cover of the Andy Williams hit ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’ which landed them a top ten UK hit in 1982. Further disco and Hi-NRG covers of soul classics such as ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours’ and ‘When Will I See You Again’ gave the group several club hits with guest vocals by the likes of Marlena Shaw, Debbie Jacobs, The Weather Girls and Sylvester.

•    HOT SHOT RECORDS is very proud to present the first ever complete anthology of THE BOYS TOWN GANG where the original Moby Dick master tapes have been used.

•    Released as a double CD collection in a super jewel case, this anthology is a must for all 80’s Pop, Disco and Hi-NRG fans.

N.B. This album is released August 4 and will not be dispatched before this date.
