The Very Best Of Vice Squad - Vice Squad

The Very Best Of Vice Squad
'The Very Best Of.' is a career spanning compilation that does exactly what it says on the tin - packing in the hits from one of the most commercially successful punk bands in the UK, the formidable Vice Squad!

Vice Squad came together in Bristol in 1979. The band comprised Beki Bondage on vocals, Dave Bateman on guitar, Mark Hambly on bass and Shane Baldwin on drums. Beki was perhaps the most popular Punk pin-up of her time and quickly became Punk's leading sex symbol. Unable to secure a record deal during their early months of gigging, the band ended up forming their own Riot City label, through which they released their first single, 'Last Rockers', in December 1980. This was followed by the 'Resurrection' EP, after which both the band and their label were signed by EMI. The album 'No Cause For Concern' was subsequently released, selling well and reaching 32 on the UK album charts. Seven months later, a second album, 'Stand Strong, Stand Proud' was in the shops and also entered the UK album chart. Included are the classic singles "Out Of Reach", "You'll Never Know", "Teenage Rampage" and "Black Sheep" - covering the bands entire output, as well as featuring efforts from both the Becki Bondage and Lia eras.

Press:-

"In the late ‘70s/early ‘80s as many young punk bands emerged it was hard for some to stand out. Bristol’s Vice Squad distinguished themselves with a successful debut single ‘Last Rockers’ and their follow up, ‘Resurrection’, sealed their reputation as notable players on the UK punk scene." Everything’s Shining Bright, the Lazy Recordings 1985-87 2CD
*** WE HAVE A VERY LIMITED AMOUNT OF SIGNED COPIES AVAILABLE, PLEASE ORDER NOW TO GET YOUR COPY!! ***

(PLEASE NOTE ALL SIGNED COPIES ARE NOW SOLD OUT!!)

Back in the mid-80s, The Primitives combined the fuzz guitars of The Jesus & Mary Chain with the pop sensibilities of Blondie and a nod to cult heroes The Velvet Underground. They swiftly rose from being a popular Indie guitar outfit to charting worldwide with "Crash”, kickstarting a craze in bands fronted by blonde female singers (Transvision Vamp, The Darling Buds et al).
Between 1985 and 1987, the band issued five singles/EP’s on independent label Lazy Records (also home to My Bloody Valentine and later Birdland) before signing with RCA.
Everything’s Shining Bright is named after their planned Lazy Records album, which was abandoned when the band left the label – indeed, seven of the ten previously unissued tracks here stem from those scotched LP sessions. Also unearthed is the band’s very first demo from 1985, consisting of three tracks including a dry-run through their eventual hit "Crash”.
This 2-CD set also boasts their promo-only live album at the ICA; as such, it offers their entire Lazy output from that period.
Those Lazy singles in full:
Thru The Flowers (May 1986) Indie No.20
Really Stupid (October 1986) Indie No.3
Stop Killing Me (February 1987) Indie No.2
Thru The Flowers (New Version - August 1987) Indie No.3
Ocean Blue (gig freebie 7”)
Compiled with guitarist PJ Court, this 2-CD compilation boasts re-mastered music as well as a beautifully annotated booklet boasting rare photos and personal memories from the band.
